| I have the AMD heatpipe heatsink with a better fan on it, and my temps can get kind of high (55c under load) with an ambient temp of about 85f. Now, the question is: what should I get? 1) Thermaltake V1 2) Scythe Ninja I want something that cools very well, and is compatible with socket 939 and LGA 775. If it'll fit on my DFI Lanparty UT nF4 Ultra-D and a Gigabyte DS3P, i'll be happy. The reason why is...I plan on upgrading one of these days. Some $30 case from tigerdirect DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D 2x512mb of Patriot DDR400, XBL+K (TCCD + Brainpower--DDR-600+ at 2.5-3-3-7-1T!) AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ CCBWE 0531XPMW (avoid this stepping) eVGA 7900GT KO NEC 3550a DVD-RW WD2500JS (250gb, SATA 3.0GB/s, 8mb cache) WD3200AAKS (320gb, SATA 3.0GB/s, 16mb cache, NCQ!) | ||||||||||||||

| I have heard great things about the V1. Here's HL's review of it: Thermaltake V1 CPU Cooler Review I'm not sure if the V1 is compatible with 939 though....... | Man, you are a week too late, I could have sold you my Thermalright XP-90! Oh well, anyway... Both the Thermaltake V1 and Scythe Ninja are good coolers that are also both compatable with s939 and LGA775 motherboards. The V1 carries a fairly hefty price tag though, so you might want to consider some of the following...

| If your case has a CPU vent then the Big Typhoon VX is really hard to beat. | Also, just thought about your temperatures a little more and if you are getting a load temperature of 55ºC in a room that is 85ºF (almost 30ºC), that is only 15ºC above ambient that is actually pretty good. Ambient temperatures will have a HUGE effect on component temps, so just keep that in mind ![]() | ||||||||||||||

| Exactly Blake, which is why I keep my house as frosty as possible year-round (65F in spring/summer, and around 50F or less in the fall/winter months......my ancestors came from polar bears yes I know, roflmao).....I'm lucky to have an integrated central unit that doesn't require an outdoor AC coil as I'm on the middle row of apartments where I'm at.......but yeah, if you can keep the house around 70 or so year-round good temps are obtainable IMHO. | ||||||||||||||

| Well I have hit 60c under load a few times. It's just the stock cooler. I want to upgrade anyway. BTW: The stock AMD heatpipe heatsink performs almost the same as the XP-90. The v1 is compatible with 939. I'm just not sure on what I should get. I want these certain ones, because we sell them where I work...and of course I have a discount. The ninja is about $35 after discount, the v1 is about $45. I'd rather go for the Ninja or the v1 instead of something Zalman, because our discount is a bit better on non-zalman coolers, and last time I checked, the v1 performed better (at low fan speed, which is where it'll be). | Well if I had to choose between the Ninja and the V1, it would really be a toss-up. I like the ninja because it can be used with any low-speed fan you want, making it very versatile and low-noise. The V1 on the other hand looks like it would be easier to mount and has a little bit more "bling" factor with the blue LED fan. | ||||||||||||||

| Yep, the Ninja can be as quiet or as loud as you want it, or as low performing or high performing as you want because it's all in the fan. if you want that blue glow, just get a blue LED fan.
