Default Experience with 'heavy' CPU coolers

I was just wondering what everyone's experience with coolers say over 700 grams is?

What do you all use to air cool your system? Is there really a danger to your motherboard using something that is approaching 900 g or 1Kg?

I was looking at a few coolers that were on the heavier side of things.

Thanks !

System Pending...but think about what I can get for 2 grandish.

I sold my Thermalright Inferno IFX and went w/ watercooling instead, but in the duration I used it, it was amazing. I tossed a Scythe 1200 on it and it was whisper quiet and cold to the touch. Also, the additional heatsink that mounts on the rear of the MOBO worked surprisingly well. I'd give it two thumbs up.

I'm using a scythe mine rev b. Normally 560g, but I have a bigger than normal fan on there, so it's a bit heavier than that. Not as heavy as they come, but it works.

I also had a thermaltake minityphoon, but that was still only about 620 grams. No problems from either (well, the moutning system for the thermaltake was crappy for intel chips, but it works great with amd.)

I have a 4lb copper plate drilled through the back side of my computer with a 120v 18" 20,000 rpm fan mounted on it, its a little heavy but damn the temps are great

Na, just kidding man!

Running a Asus Silent Knight II cooler, that is in the mid 600g range, and not having any issues with it or the motherboard.
I would think that the heavier coolers, if your running a Intel chip, should be fine as long as the cooler has the mounting bracket that installs on the back of the motherboard!

I've used both the Scythe Ninja Copper Edition, which weighs in at over 1000g, and the Scyther Orochi, which weighs in at over 1150g.......both are exceptional coolers, although I wouldn't recommend them for a LAN party or any mobile computing

after using a Scythe Ninja, I would definitely suggest a backplate setup with anything over 500g. The ninja was just too heavy and was pulling on the Intel pins enough that I had to tighten them down every month or two. Ever since I switched to a Big Typhoon I haven't been happier and have not noticed any board twisting or pulling. I wouldn't worry about anything like that until it gets 1kg or higher.

Thanks HL and Corsair!
