Either the temp sensor is mis-reporting, or it's the wrong sensor. Core 2 is a great architecture, but 21C load on stock air cooling just isn't realistic.

Yep, that temp isn't right. His room would have to be -5 to get that temp with the stock cooler.

Considering how cool my on E6600 is running I would be skeptical but not totally disbelieving. However we do need more info. Can you grab a copy of ITAT and confirm the idel temp, also the room temp as well as info on the case might help clear this up. Finally is this a core reading or the HS reading?

Also you say that was under load, what was providing the load?

Well, considering 21 are load temps, room has to be under 21, no? That's what air cooling is about.

Let's say room is 18 celsius, because under that it seems a bit too cold. That gives 3 celsius for load temps.
If you check Cooler Master GeminII review by capper you'll see that at 74F (23ish celsius) the stock idle for the E6300 is 36 celsius. Stock load is 49 celsius.
Now sure, I know that heat dissipation isn't a straight line, more like a curve. So at higher room temps it will dissipate less than at colder room temps. But even then, it does seem quite crazy to think the stock Intel cooler could keep an E6420 at 21 celsius load if room temp is anything within something you can actually live in.
Just my 2 cents. ;)

Agreed, those temperatures are a little too low to take seriously.

Core Temps reports from on the die itself. Using easytune 5 which came with the gigabyte motherboard my friend got is reporting 8C idle and 13C at load. Prime95 is providing the load. I agree that it must be reporting wrong because he is in a 70F to 80F room. what program will give me an accurate temp?
