Default cpu cooler help!

alright folks. i am in need of a cpu heatsink so i can do some nice overclocking on my e4300 c2d. my choices so far are based on reviews out of maxpc. for the longest time the zalman cnps9700 led was king. recently they reviewed the thermaltake v1 and said it bested the zalman. also i've read somewhere that the thermalright ultra120 extreme 6 was a very good cooler.

so out of these what are the best. cooling wise and quietness wise (doesn't sound right..) or if you know of something better then let me know.

zalman cnps9700 led
zalman cnps9700nt (what's the difference?)
thermaltake v1
thermalright ultra 120 extreme 6

will be going on a striker extreme, in an aurora 570 case. looking for something that cools great. isn't loud.

and on a side note.. if it's led lit, i prefer blue to go along with the case and my gameXstream 850w.

thanks for the help.

I don't have any personal experience with anything but the 9700nt. The light on that by the way....is green.

I've overclocked my e6600 from 2.4 to 3.15 on a asus p5w dh deluxe board and it's keeping it about 35-37 underload and 25-28 in idle. I can say that it's been doing a very good job for me so far. I've had it for about 3 weeks now. I used artic silver 5 with it.

I have heard very good things about the 120 ultra extreme, but heard it's also alot bigger and I think you have to by a fan for it.

sorry find it odd for an air cooling to hit 20C something degrees, make sure you use ITAT & Coretemp to check your CPU temp...

i did every possible way to cool my e6600 down with air cooling, i even put a aircon 10000btu right beside it, but still idle at 36-38C and full load at 49-55C, this at stock speed...

Well....I don't know what you would consider loud...but when it's under full load it runs about 2800 rpm and I can't hear it all that much. My hearing isn't the best though...I've got a 900 case with 7 fans total....it doesn't seem loud to me. 3 on high and 4 on medium.

Halutzparilla....as shocking as it seems...it's true. Coretemp, tat, and speedfan all say the same thing for core 0 and core 1. I've got a window ac unit in a small room...room temp is about 75-77 degrees. I've got 7 fans in my case counting the 9700nt. That may have something to do with it. Stock speed at 2.4 runs about 33-35 under full load.
Let me correct myself...while overclocked @3.20 35-37 running 2 instances of super pi and about 37-40 while running orthos/stressprime 2004. I backed it down to 3.15...but I'm testing the memory at the moment, but I'd say it should be about the same.

I'm no expert....but you may consider lapping your cpu and heatsink. Everything I've read looks good about dropping your load temps 5+ degrees.

The Thermaltake Big Typhoon, Thermaltake V1, and Thermalright Ultra 120 (extreme version or not) are some of the best air coolers around. You could also check out the Noctua NH-U12F, Scythe Infinity, Scythe Mine, Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. The FrostyTech Top 5 Heatsinks is also a good resource for comparing performance and noise level.

If I could get any processor heatsink available today, I think I would get the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme and pair it with a nice, low-RPM 120mm fan.

i ended up going with a cnps 9700 led. i was going to get the tr ultra 120 extreme but after searching for pictures of it with a fan attatched i didn't like the look. plus i would have had to find a good quiet fan.

haven't installed yet. waiting for my new case to come in the mail.

I know it's too late, but the Coolermaster GeminII would have benefitted your Striker Extreme a lot.

i could still buy another one. i was considering the gemini because it will cool off the large motherboard heatsink.. but then i had to look into fan's.

and fans would be a difficult thing to find i think.

can anyone recommend me some fans?

what i'm looking for in a fan is:
-quietness!
-effectiveness (cfm)
-blue led lit, to go with the rest of my case
-and i believe the gemini takes 120mm fans right?

I would say the Arctic Cooling fans, but they don't have blue LEDs. I would just go to Newegg and look at all the fans there and pick some out.
