| Chipset cools much better now! For a long time, I had a hard time keeping my chipset cool, at least it seemed to get more difficult as time went on. As you'd guess, dust was the culprit - lots of it. My case has a dust filter on the front, but I think it might let more in than I thought.
So, after cleaning all the dust out of the little HSF and getting rid of a lot of excess junk, wires, etc. to open up the space, the chipset responds very well now to any increases in airflow from the two 92mm front fans and the 120mm I have pointing right at it, which as you'd also guess, brings in all the dust and dirt.
Right now, with ambient room at 78°F, with the 120 turned off, the front fans on low and the SB fan set at 90 in SmartGaurdian (4960 rpm - quiet), I get 44°C on idle. If I turn the 120 on 5V, it goes down a little. The 120 at 12V and the front fans on high, it drops fairly fast to 39°C. With all fans going full tilt, (SB @7337rpm - loud!) I get 37-38°. I use Everest for the readings. And I can only hope that the AS5 I used is helping. I haven't tested load temps yet... If it's not fixed, then don't broke it! |
