Default Been a long time, but now i need help

Long story short, i have to build a new system. I am going with an AMD chip, socket am2. I am planning on getting a danger den rbx m2 cpu water block. I am also getting a 8800 series gpu block, but i am waiting till i get the card. Not sure if i am getting a gtx, or gts. so to my question

1. I keep reading about spray accelorator nozzles, but i have no clue what these are. Need to know before i order my water blocks.
2. Capper, i have seen you in well over a year, so would it be a problem to come over in say 2 weeks and help me setup the water block on the gpu.

My current system/soon to be dead system is running on a thermaltake big water system. I saw someone once say they are crap, but i got a 20c drop in cpu temp with it on my prescott. So i know the basics, and using what i have learned to build a new system.

You can stop by anytime, I'm always happy to help.

The first generation Big Water kits were really bad, but Thermaltake did a great job redesigning the kit, and the newest version thats hitting the streets now is actually a really nice set up.

I guess i got lucky. I had a huge heat pipe cooler, and the big water dropped the temps from that 20 degrees. Plus i went from my 10 fan case to 3 fan case with those temp drops.

Can you elaborate on why you would want to go with AM2 when a Core2Duo setup make much more sense? The C2D's lower end CPU's, the E6300 for $187, overclock like mad, taking you well into the $500+ CPU performance tier. I just cannot recommend anyone building an AMD box at this point. I've been an AMD fanboy for the last 10 years, but Intel has put the smack-down on them this time, and good. I just built a new rig with an Intel CPU. First time I've done that in over a decade.

well after much discussion and deep thought, i am taking the mobo back tomorrow, and picking up an evga board.

Still would like to know what a spray accelorator nozzle is.

I agree with Quakin. The benchmarks across the board show the E6300 spanking the 4600+ and higher at times at stock speeds. A little OC bump and this $180 cpu is spanking the AMD 5000+... if you're looking for a decent setup for Socket 775, something like the the nvidia 650i chipset or the stable Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 is a good stable board.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

i had a bad experience with a gigabyte board, so i will not use them again. So i am going with the evga board that was just reviewed here, but processor im not sure of. I like the e6600, but for half the price and a little overclocking help from capper, that e6300 sounds really nice at that price.

There's nothing wrong with going with the E6300. Especially if budgets are a major concern. I had the same choice to make that you do now. I picked the E6600 over the E6300 because of one thing. They were overclocking the E6300 to get past E6600 performance at stock settings. I'll say it again, the E6300, heavily overclocked, just barely squeaks past the E6600 at stock settings. Meanwhile, the E6600, once overclocked, gets well into the Extreme Edition territory. Here's some reading and chart gazing for you.

The E6300 isn't a bad value at all. And as is the case with everything overclocking related, results are not guaranteed. However, you can expect an E6600, with decent cooling, to get to 3.0Ghz easy. I hit 3.375Ghz without over-volting mine and temps stay in the mid-50's under heavy utilization. I can run it over-volted up to 3.6Ghz before I start having some major cooling issues. It has been running for well over 6-8 weeks at 3.373Ghz though.

Finally, your motherboard and memory selection will also play a large part in how well your CPU overclocks.

Ok, got the intel board, and im ordering my proccessor and water block tonight. Also want to order the coolant/additive. Which would be best to use. This will be in a new koolance exos2.

Might want to post that question up in the Cooling section so the resident watercooling gurus will see it
