Default Arctic silver question

Would i see any adverse effects if I applied AS5 on an A64, put the heatsink on, but not run the system for 24hrs? would i see higher temperatures at all or is it just fine?

I never really thought about it, but i want to save myself some time later on tonight.

The process of curing, or breaking in thermal compound involves both running the system, and turning it off. I've seen various recommendations saying 24 hours on 24 hours off for a week is the best method

Sapphire HD 3870X2

Thanks. I was just talking about applying the thermalpaste to the cpu. Not running the system at all.

Another question... is it ok to open the syringe and use a toothpick to mix it around a bit. Its been in one spot for a long time and i think its seperated. when i push the plunger its kinda watery.

You shouldn't worry about it. According to Arctic Silver:

To keep the compound fresh for future applications, always replace the cap on the syringe after each use. The syringe should be stored tip down so that any separation that occurs will be at the back end of the syringe with fully suspended particles below that. Storing in a cool place like a refrigerator will also lessen the separation over time.
So Just make sure to store it tip down and they say that the slight seperation will not affect performance. If you are worried about it, you could just squirt a little into a paper towel until all the "separated liquid" is gone and then use the 'good stuff'.
But yeah, it probably wouldn't do any good try try and mix it up with a tooth pick. Just let it be and you should be good to go. :)
