Default Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev 2 Cooler Review

Along with scorching speeds, GPUs also get scorching hot. No longer the exception, dual-slot cooling solutions have become the norm to battle increasing temperatures. Where does that leave passive cooling solutions, and more specifically, Arctic Cooling's Accelero S1 Rev 2 VGA cooler?

Arctic Cooling doesn't nearly get the love they deserve....

very cool.... literally...
May have to pick one up for my X1950GT for a quieter fan...

Thanks HL and Corsair!

hmm tempted to buy it for my GTS G92 to test out how it performs with it. Where can you guarantee a Rev2? And the 2 fans would they work just plugging into the fan power pin on the GPU? Or you guys really think its not necessary.

(thanks blake!)

looking at the temps, I would say most cards should be fine without the fans but if you have a hot one, the fans would help.
Heck I bet you could go to the hardware store and get a few longer screws and put a 120mm fan on here...

Thanks HL and Corsair!

I don't think touting that your product is "Media endorsed" a good way to get success. :P

I can see the few inches added to be a problem with smaller cases or even my Antec 900. Depending on the video card location (let's say the current location in my case) this cooler would be right in line with the plastic retention clip for the 120mm fan on the side panel. Right in line is saying very little though, it would likely be too long.

I don't see why it wouldn't, but the reason we used the Molex was because the 3-pin connector wasn't physically compatible with the connector on our 3850.

Whether or not you need the fans depends entirely on your setup. We tested inside an Antec P180 chassis with the side panel closed. Airflow was provided via an intake and exhaust fan, both set to low speed.

ah ok, well if it does burn up in the TT Matrix, i'll just blame blake =D
But yeah where can we find the Rev2 officially in stock lol, none of the big e-tailers carry it, and anything i've seen is all sold out.

(thanks blake!)

thats why it said "if you can find it"

heres an S2: (edit: removed)

xoxide usually has this stuff but they only have the X1 and the thermalright HR-03...

otherwise a google search shows some out there

edit: nevermind on the S2, it is only for ATi X1650 or lower and nvidia 7600 and lower

I've been using the Accelero S1 passively (no fan/turbo module) on my X1950Pro for quite some time now and it works great. I don't plan on replacing it any time soon, I really couldn't as for more than what this thing does!
