Default x1950 pro or 8600

my low FPS are annoying me so its a new card and more ram, the core 2 can wait. but which card? is it worth getting a 8600? hows it preform compaired to the x1950 pro? and how come its only got 128 bit memory?

Im leaning toward the x1950 for crossfire later on but what do u guys recommend?

For the money that you are going to spend on the 1950 pro, a better choice would be an EVGA 8800gts 320mb DX10 video card!!!!

Newegg.com - EVGA 320-P2-N811-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card - Retail

Its a few more bucks, but if you are looking at multiple video cards in the foreseeable future, I think this would be a much better choice, seeing as how things will be heading toward the DX10 genre!!!!

Almost 100$# more is a bit more than a few bucks. I will agree that the 8800 is a better card but there are other factors to consider. Such as at this moment only one game coming out this year appears to be a true DX10 game.

Choosing between the 8600 and the 1950 pro is not an easy choice. In most benchmarks the 1950 Pro wins however the 8600 stays pretty close. The added bonus of future DX10 support makes this a tough choice.

If there where more true DX10 games coming I would say the 8600 but with the current crop that has been announced and confirmed I would stay with the 1950Pro for the extra performance boost.

I would say maybe the 8600gts would do the trick. just build a comp for a friend with the MSI 8600GTS OC Edition and it works like a charm!! (nvidia drivers for vista are POS though... As said on a different thread, alternative drivers are avalible, though.)

EDIT: Here's a link: Newegg.com - MSI NX8600GTS-T2D256E-OC GeForce 8600GTS 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Over Clock Edition HDCP Video Card - Retail

Bit cheaper than a reference 8600gts also!!!
