| socket 939 junkie | hey i was browsing the web a bit ago and i came across THIS. its a simple volt mod that will change the voltage from the stock 1.2v to 1.4 (the same voltage of a 7900gtx) speads upwards of 600mhz on the core have been hit with this. basically you'll get a 256mb version of the 7900GTX. all it requires is some conductive paint and, a toothpick or needle and a steady hand. also theres a 1.3 and a 1.5 voltmod. just take a look at the1st and 20th posts in the thread. | I've got the 7900GT CO, and am wondering, how safe is this? I'm tempted to try, but don't have the extra cash on hand in case it fries the card. Any ideas? Thanks, Redleg |

| Functional Alcoholic | I have the same card as you RedLeg, and it suits me just fine the way it is. It plays the 2 games I play the most in full detail so I am not worried. My only plans to buy another 7900gt is for SLI not replacement. |

| i have a small rig with 2 x 7900gt's in them, there both vmoded for 1.55vgpu and they run fairly cool on water, for most people the vmod wont be worth anything... |

| I'm not planning on going water cooling, and have been looking at going the SLI route. I must have one of the few good cards also, cause I have no complaints with it. I've mostly played Morrowind and starting to play Oblivion, with no problems either, so I guess I'll leave well enough alone. Thanks guys, I appreciate the information. Redleg |

| I'm Evil | I recommend against modding video cards.....sometimes it works, most often it shortens the life of or kills the cards. Having said that, HardOCP ran an article about a month ago hilighting the problems many companies were having with their "O/Ced out of the box" offerings INTEL QX9650 ASUS P5E3 Premium 4GB DDR3-1600 Sapphire HD 3870X2 Danger Den Tower-26 (Custom W/C) 5 x Seagate 250GB HDD in RAID5 BFG ES 800W PSU |

| I agree...my card's do not show any problem's not to say they wont..but my vmod is a little better then most guy's..i added the missing componet's that the SS card's have...so mine isent really a vmod it's just upgrading the card to what the SS is... |

| Modder-ator | I went all out and made an elaborate custom cooling solution for my 6800GT and it ended up taking a poop and dying on me randomly one day :( So like every mod, do it at your own risk. And just like gambling, don't mod anything you can't afford to lose!! |

| hey guys! I just wanted to add my 2 cents. modding is good as long as you know what you doing. make sure the cooling is sufficient, especially if you voltmod which will significantly raise the temps. the 6800LE that I modded still works great at the extra +118% speed and runs cooler then before the mod. since then I saw my friends card (a vanilla 6800), which he didnt want to mod but was running allways too hot with the crappy original cooler and guess what? it died on him 1,5 months after purchase.
