Default SLI Question

Question :?:
I have a xfx 7800gt extreme e7 edition.
Now do I have to use the (exact) same card or does it just have to be a xfx 7800gt (they have 2 models)
Or any 7800gt??
Yea I don't know the answer to this.
Just wondering cuz when the 7900 hits I'm sure some fool will be wanting to up grad so just wondering.

You can use the exact same card, any XFX 7800GT, or even any brand 7800GT. The only requirement however is that you use a driver of version 81.xx or newer. Other than that, you technically *should* be good to go :)
If you use an older driver, then you are probably limited to only XFX cards, and possible the exact same model XFX...

EDIT: What's up with the thread title?! :?

they have to be running at the exact same clock speed too.
You can use a program like "Coolbits" to set the clock frequency to the same settings

Sapphire HD 3870X2

But just remember, even beta drivers hosted by reputable sites are still BETA drivers and can still possibly be unstable (although usually not the case). Just something to keep in mind with all the "beta" drivers that are leaked...

Right, but you don't need to do that anymore BB. As said, with the 81.xx drivers (and up), you can use any pair of cards. Brand, BIOS, version, etc. does not matter. What does matter is that you actually get the same card (unlike CrossFire).

i.e. If you have a 7800GTX, you need another 7800GTX

The driver's on what now, 84.xx? That's what I have.
