Default Is this right?

I installed my new 7800GT yesterday and reinstalled the drivers. I tried overclocking today but decided to bring back to stock.

Just a few minutes ago, I ran 3dmark 05. I was suprised to see that I only got 7250.
Does this sound right for the rig that I am on?

It's at 2.3 ghz already. Unfortunately I can't get it any higher.

How bottlenecked is the videocard by the CPU?

From what I understand, the bottlneck is a decent one..

Make sure your driver settings are tuned for performance.... Now that I think of it, 7200 may be just a wee bit low.

oh yea. It isn't tuned for performance.
AA and AF is application controlled. Image quality is at Quality. I could lower it, and retest. But not tonight, tommorrow morning.

THIS LINK should be helpful for comparing CPU gaming performance with a 7800GT

However, looking at THIS follow-up article, it looks like if you have higher quality enabled, your processor won't make as much of a difference as the bottleneck switches to the video card.

So overall, it looks like if you are a benchmark freak, then you will be bottlenecked by the CPU. But if you actually game with AA and AF, then it will be your graphics card that is bottlenecked.

Oh that makes alot of sense. Just increase the visuals so the videocard has more work. No, im not a benchmark freak. In fact, I rarely run benchmarks.

If you think thats a bet CPU bottle neck, try an x800 pro unlocked to 16 pipes, OCed to 520/560 with an Athlon XP 1700 @ Stock. I get 30-40FPS in CSS at 1024x768 max AA/AF, at 640x480, all settings on low, no AA/AF i get 30-40 FPS
