yeah its looking beastly. i read somewhere that its using a unified pixel (or something or another cant remember at 5am with no sleep) architecture in support of DX10 where as the geforce 8xxx series is using a little bit of everything. to me it eerily reminds me of the ati 9xxx vs nvidia fx 5xxx days...

mmmm*drools*
Graphics power has gotten insane in the last year or so and it looks like it's just goint to keep growing.
I mean, think about a 7600GT compared to a 9800XT, just two generations old.

Well yeah, they frickin' better be the fastest thing!!! I don't want to see ATI spending this much time with R&D to come out with something slower than what they already made!

Yeah, I read something on that too; I think it was an x-bit labs news article...

Indeed, except the nVidia cards this time don't suck quite as bad!
I just sincerely hope that this new card isn't too much of a power/heat beast. It seems to me that GPU's are following in the footsteps of Intel's CPU's. Sooner or later, ATI will hit the wall and something is gonna have to give :?

Yeah, totally. It really is amazing what a "mid-range" video card can do now days. However, I do remember when a mid-range video card cost less than $150. Now they are upwards closer to $200  :(

i'm thinking of getting the next gen mid ranged video card. The 8600gt or something. I wonder how much it will cost.

Supposedly ATI's next gen mid-range cards will have a 256 bit memory interface. If this is the case, I think I know what I'll be upgrading to

Like blake said, I'd hope R600 is their fastest chip or else they are going backwards!

I just purchased my first 'mid-range' card, a X1600XT for my testbench. I'm anxious to see how it preforms. The test-bench is going to be for review writing, and browsing the net, while the main rig is going to be powered-off except when it's time to frag. This rig just generates too much heat for this time of year.

8) YEA! Finally... every mid-range card to date is stuck with the old crap 128 bit memory interface.
