Default R600 to get a new cooler

You may know the R520\580 cooler sounds like a hair-dryer at times. Word on the street is R600 is getting a re-designed one.

'Bout time! This new GPU should be interesting. I just hope ATI's GPU's don't suffer the same fate as Intel's CPU's (just getting hotter and consuming more power until no more can be done).

LOL. Well word is, R600 is supposed to be the warmest to date :o
Ati needs to utilize heatpipes like NVidia did on their recent flagship cards.

To show you, X1900XTX, I only use it to play GRAW any run benchmarks anymore. My house is central ACed, but when I play GRAW for an hour or so, my room becomes soo hot, that my prents close my door to stop the heat from heating up the rest of the upstairs.
I've found the X1600XT in my test bench plays CSS maxed out eye candy, and does so while putting out almost no heat. After 5 hr of CSS on that X1600XT, the PCB is barely warm.

It's hard to imagine that R600 puts out more heat then R580.

Short article, but I hope it's true. It doesn't sound like a hair dryer, it's a hair dryer! :P

It's true I remember my X1600XT was barely warm to the touch after hours of intense gaming. I sold it used not very long after I bought it and it looked great aside the X800GTO˛ in the display, the X1600XT being mostly white and the X800GTO˛ black it made like heaven and hell. :)

The x1900 sink it self is good, like the copper fins part, its just it's fan that sucks, as the x1900s cooler at 100% usually out performes the vf-900/accelero but several degrees sometimes even as much as double digits...but its loud as helll

No question the X1900 Stock cooler @100% out performes VF900\Accelero. I ran a VF900 on X1800XT for about 1 day, and ran all kinds of temp comparisons. Even @ 75%, stock X1800XT cooler outpreforms all the competition.

And this is where the super modded Dynatron BH-610 comes into play....

I swear by Zalman coolers, and own a hanfull of them. The VF900 simply cannot handle the X1800/X1900 heat output. I tried diligently to make it work.

Now this brings us back to, what kind of cooler will R600 have?!

Good question. You know the IceQ coolers HIS makes, the fan is at the end of the card and it's better at dissipating heat while making alot less noise than the reference ati cooler. The HIS IceQ 3 does a great job imo on the X1900's. I think they made it fit on a X1800GTO too.

Those heatsinks that HIS uses are made by Arctic Cooling. I'm willing to bet that the Accelero either outperforms or matches the performance of the IceQ 3.

I'm thinking ATI has something like the 7900GTX cooler in the works.

I could have sworn that HIS said the sinks wern't made by aritc cooling, and instead they had soem 3rd party rip them off....Also, the HIS cooler out performs the stock x1900 cooler at 100%, the Accelero at 100% doesnt come close the stock and and HIS cooler at 100%
