Default quad SLI

I have an SLI motherboard so dose it also support quad SLI or do I need a quad SLI specific motherboard?

Quad SLI is really just running two dual-GPU cards in SLI (which equals four GPU cores working together). So you would need two 7950GTX2 cards and an SLI motherboard. But if you are actually considering such a setup, I would highly recommend against it as it is prettymuch a tremendous waste of money.

I believe Gigabyte does have a board with four PCI-Express x16 slots, but I'm not sure if it will actually do SLI on all of them.

even if they could, would they support "Octa-SLI"?

THAT would be a treat.

only problem is im staying WAY layed back until the good chuck of DX10 cards are out. no point in upgrading big yet, cuz if you go nuts for 2 months on your new 8800GTS or 7950GT or X1900XTX running in SLI or Crossfire (respectively) then there will soon be something WAY better for the same price you spent.

...to answer your question, any current SLI board will run two dual-gpu cards, like the 7900GX2 (limited) or the 7950GX2. theyre both the exact same card, the 7900GX2 was a very quiet limited pre-release.

there is a SAPPHIRE X1950 that has 2 of the GPUs on one board. that will run...i guess "Quad-Crossfire", but it isnt perfected yet.

again, i'd wait. but if your eager enough to go Quad-SLI now, then go for it.

Probably not... there are no nvidia drivers for that sort of stuff.

There's always something "right around the corner" that totally pwns your current hardware. If you fall into that pit of waiting for the next great thing you'll never build a PC.

Don't worry, people have already tested Gigabyte Quad royal with 7950GX2. First, you can't connect them properly. Second, the drivers wouldn't support that. :P It was fun to see though.
