Default Power Draw best @ low watts

Looking for 3 categories:

  1. High end card in the ATI 3870 or new R770 chip or the 9600GT, 8800gt, 9800gt etc
  2. Mid range ATI or Nvidia 8600GT etc
  3. Fastest onboard video chipset.
Is there any sites that show the power draw on cards?

Looking for mid to high end card with very efficient power draw ... but decent speed. Nothing less than GDDR3 512MB.

Most big-time review sites (AnandTech, bit-tech, TweakTown) are pretty good about publishing power draw figures, but of the whole system, not necessarily just what the video card pulls.

Are you looking for recommendations for a high end card as well as a midrange card, or just one that will suit a single particular need?

Recommends for best High end, Midrange card that has lower power draw.

Or ... fastest chipset Mobo.

I may be building a machine for a friend and want to save the cash on the Vid Card.

Well is your friend a gamer? If so, any games in particular? What resolution?
If not, then do they want to watch high definition movies on the computer? Do they do any rendering type stuff?

These guys seem to provide pretty accurate power draw data by card:

The machine will be used for trading commodities ... so the graphics must be decent enough to support the changing feeds of the charts.

Graphically about as demanding as gaming from the mid 90's ... C&C etc.

If you are looking at power savings, here are some motherboards that may save a few $$$ but also power over the long run:

Gigabyte "E" series boards, EP35, EX48

Thanks HL and Corsair!

The video card probably isn't going to be the weak link in something like watching stock charts (more like processor and RAM). Any low-end video card (GeForce 8400/8500 or HD3400 series) should suit your needs just fine and will not use much power. If you are looking to get away with as little as possible, any current generation chipset with integrated graphics would also probably work fine (particularly those from nVidia and AMD).

but if Vista will be used then at least a 8400 or 3400 is suggested... onboard completely sucks in Vista
