| is the only difference between these two cards the core clock and memory clock, and is a 37 mhz difference in the core clock and a 360 mhz difference in the memory clock worth another $100 roughly. | Ya, the 8800Ultra is pretty much an OCed 8800GTX. Unless you get an 8800Ultra though a step-up program or if you get one for free, the 8800GTX is the way to go. E8400 DFI Blood Iron P35-T2RL 2GB G.Skill 800MHz ASUS 9600GT TOP Silverstone DA650W WD 250GB + Seagate 160GB |

| I'm Diggin it! | You wouldn't catch me paying $500+ for a video card. Much less $600. Me personally, of those two choices, I'd go with the GTX. The difference between the two performance wise doesn't mean a whole lot when the GTX pulls in the frame rates like it does. Later on, you could always overclock the GTX to those of the Ultra. Or dang close to it. | If those are your only choices then I would agree with the GTX, as the performance gain is not worth the price. if you want to stay nVidia I would look at the 8800GTS which can handle anything thrown at it with ease. I would also look at the Radeon 2900. While it's benchamark numbers might be lower it can still run anything out well and early DX10 testing shows it is slower than the ultra but faster than the GTX in real DX10. Now take that with a grain of salt since the testing is still new and drivers will imrpove perfornace but the numbers basically say that a 2900 will work fine as well.
