| What the hell is wrong with Nvidia these days. When the 9600GT came out, it was just an 8800GT with some of the shaders disabled, and different clocks. When the 9800GTX/GX2 came out, it was just a higher clocked 8800GT with more transitors, with every other aspect the exact same. Now the 9600GSO is out, and they didn't even make the slightest attemp to differenciate it from the 8800GS, it's the EXACT same card.. I don't understand why even release it.. I could swear I heard Nvidia touting 4x the performance with the 9 series over a year ago, now all we get are rebrands of the exact same cards. That's a 0% increase over the previous generation, and at an increased price. links-- NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GSO and GeForce 8800 | ||||||||||||||

| But are people really buying into this? So Nvidia is now making sales based on consumer's ignorance? heh, can't wait to see what ATI brings up with the R770 lineup next month, I'm just hoping it ends Nvidia's whoring of the graphics market. I can't wait to be a loyal ati fan "again" | ||||||||||||||

| nvidia has an interesting history of releasing a "GS" series as a spinoff of the lowest of the high-end cards that only lasts but a few months until it is replaced by the new series. They did the same thing with the GeForce 6800GS and 7900GS. | ||||||||||||||

| This is normal business in the technology sector... Look at the 8800GTS cards, at newegg, the 320MB is $140 to 195, the 512MB is $220-225 and the 640MB is $230+ (with other KO versions of each costing more). Yet the 320 and 640 are the older G80 and the 512MB is G92... so why is the older G80 costing more than the newer G92... because they are basing it on the name and not the core technology... For those of us that know the 9600GSO and 8800GT are the same cards, we will buy the 8800GT for cheaper because we know... but nvidia counts on other NOT knowing this and willing to spend more on the 9x00 name... ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | Well I never really knew much about nvidia before. I've owned a Geforce FX 5500 for probebly 2 weeks before upgrading it, then a 7600GT for 2 months before I got my X1950XT, then from there an 8800GTS(G80) and now an 8800GT(G92) and in between probebly 15 or more cards from ATI since the radeon 7500. So clearly I was never a fan of Nvidia and hardly ever used thier products for very long, so I never knew they did this before. Now that ATI has adressed the flaw that severely held back the HD2 and HD3 series, I'm really looking forward to the 4870 even more, hoping to leave Nvidia and all of thier marketing schemes. | ||||||||||||||

| ATI did the same thing early on with the "X" series GPUs... the X600 is the 9600, the X800 is a 9800 (IIRC). Only the X1000 series were new cores. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. | ||||||||||||||

| If you stopped every business that used foul practices there would be no businesses anywhere. They're probably using these cards in Dells, HPs, and other pre-built company stores so they can claim its top of the line, much like Best Buy + HP did when I bought my first non-crappy pc. | ||||||||||||||
