| I acquired quite a while ago an eVGA 6800GT from a friend. The card fit in the computer I had originally put it in. However, shortly after I upgraded and the card would not fit in the new motherboard. The graphics card has an aftermarket heatsink on it to control noise (according to the friend). I'm currently wanting to put it into an MSI 945GT Speedster-A4R motherboard (yeah I got it back from the MSI RMA department and it works fine). Is there any graphics card that will fit into this motherboard? Thanks for the help. Also do you have any suggestions on a graphics card that is decent and is around $150? A picture of my graphics card is below: ![]() Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 at 2.4GHz Gigabyte P35-DS3R Revision 2.0 4GB DDR2 667 (Corsair XMS2 x2 and Edge Technologies x2, 4-4-4-12) eVGA 8800GTX stock clocked OCZ 700w GamerXstream power supply Antec Three 300 case Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit with SP1 |

| Modder-ator | The video card you pictured above has a PCI-Express x16 interface and should fit into the MSI 945GT Speedster-A4R motherboard you linked to as it has the necessary PCI-Express x16 slot. Is this that MSI board the one you say the video card will not fit in? If so, is it possible that the large aftermarket cooler is the thing not allowing it to fit? Please describe the incompatibility with a little more deatil... |

| Sorry for the confusion. Let me re-phrase this. The graphics card will fit physically into the PCIe slot, but it won't fit without touching the CPU. When the graphics card touches the CPU it overheats it, causing the system to freeze up about every 20 minutes. That is what I mean by it won't fit. | I'm Diggin it! | Your mobo has PCI-e slots and that card looks like a PCI-e card, so it should fit. Is cooler coming into contact with the large capacitors there on the bottom of the PCI-e slot? Can you take a picture of the card installed? It shouldn't be touching the CPU. What CPU cooler do you have? | lol bit extreme there hitman. Watercooling blocks would be smaller, that fan is huge dose the card really need all that cooling power? Last edited by Death_blooms; April 10th, 2007 at 11:09. Reason: I can't spell!!!! |

| By looking at the pics of your motherboard I can see that MSI laid out that motherboard poorly. The cpu socket is just too close to the PCI-E 16 slot. There's no way you could even fit a larger after market heat sink on your cpu. I expect they intended this motherboard to be used with smaller PCI-E video cards and stock CPU heat sinks. | Modder-ator | What cooler do you have on your processor? You might need to find a different cooler that will not hang over that side of the CPU socket heatsink retention bracket. You might be able to get the Thermalright Ultra-90 LGA775 cooler and the special retention bracket for s478 and turn the cooler 90º so the large face of the fins faces the video card (making it thin and it wouldn't hang over the bottom edge of the CPU socket area). | Ok, we need to see images of this otherwise we can only guess at what the problem might be. |
