| i'm sure both of those cards will work wonders. EDIT: you may want to upgrade your power supply when you gett eh 7800GS or the x1950 pro. Also another note, your pc is pretty aged. Have you though of getting a new rig? Although a new videocard will suffice, i'm just wondering if it is best to keep buying old hardware. | HL's Technomancer | You'd be better off with a single 8600 GT then two 8500s, two 8500s would be $200, and a 8600 GT can be had for $130-150 and has double the shaders of the 8500 and faster ram/core clocks |

| socket 939 junkie | i think this 7950GT would give the X1950PRO a good run for the money. however it has a pricetag of $269.99. if you want a good card that wont break the bank, may i suggest this 7600GT which rings up at a much more afordable $119.99 after $20 mail in rebate. dont worry about performance with the 7600gt. i run one with my baghdad build and it plays all my games on max settings @ 1280x1024 (with the exception of supreme commander. settings are at medium) now on to your future build. i see two things that i would personally change. 1 being the power supply and 2 the video cards. for problem number 1 i would get a power supply from Antec, Enermax, Seasonic, OCZ, FSP(Fortron source) Tagan or Thermaltake. theres also many other good brands out there, but these are my choices for the best bang for buck. ive run Antec psu's in all of my computers and have never had a problem with them. my dads athlon xp system sports a 400w FPS power supply and it hasnt had any hiccups yet. solution to the second problem has been touched on already by Stormcrow. however if i had $200 to spend on a video card, i would put it towards something like an X1950PRO or 7900GS. both of these cards outperform the 8600GTS at higher resolutions and offer plenty of power. sure they lack DX10, but 1. no one knows how well current DX10 cards will run DX10 games, and 2. theres no DX10 games available. |
