Apparently OCZ might try their hand at making video cards!

I think they are just playing off the buzz surrounding their name, but maybe they will actually do something new and different over the other guys.

I've been buying OCZ products for years, and at this point, I think buzz would have to be considered reputation. What I think they'll have to do though, is not necessarily anything new and different, but match the lifetime warranties as offered BFG, eVGA, and XFX. Combined with their customer support, they could quickly find themselves a top choice, assuming they apply the same pricing principles as they've done on their RAM and PSUs.

Yeah, that's what I meant by "buzz" (brand reputation).
As far as them doing something "different", I was thinking along the lines of more attractive bundles, better cooling solutions, and of course the great warranties.

You know, thinking along those lines, their marketing department should come up with a bundle package for new builds with a pricing incentive. For example, the OCZ Booster Kit consisting of a 700w GameXstream, 2GB DDR2-800, and Platinum 8800GTX videocard (or whatever they end up dubbing it), and throw in a t-shirt and stickers, etc. Not many other top tier companies are in a position to offer such a widespread bundle, let alone a desirable one. For example:

eVGA = they've offered videocard and mobo combos, and while that's nifty, an eVGA motherboard is not the first choice for many enthusiasts.

BFG = they've offered PSU and videocard bundles, but nobody seems to know a great deal about their power supplies, and they're not SLI certified.

XFX = no component bundles that I'm aware of.

I doubt it. OCZ has a solid reputation of delivering quality products. Having since been turned on to them, I have replaced my PSU's with OCZ models, and will never consider buying anything else other than OCZ RAM. Their support, warranty and customer service are top notch. If OCZ were to release their own line of graphics cards (providing they were nVidia) I would definitely look into it.

Interesting, bundles might put pressure on the other companies to make similar offers. How long before a company makes basically everything you need?

i would say never, simply because that would eliminate any form of specialized makers, like with what One4 said, it would just be bit pointless to have that many different companies offerring the same things.

You got Intel and nvidia what if they bought OCZ. I'm not saying it's going to happen right away but companies are merging into mega companies or being bought by mega companies on a pretty regular basis.

well i guess thats normal, i would still trust certain companies more if they specialized in one area. Take for example Yamaha makes just about everything in the music area, while the more specialized company of C.G. Conn or King make really really good tubas. I would trust Conn or King more with a quality tuba than Yamaha. Same thing goes with computer parts, certain companies just make better things.

On a related note, many companies don't make their own products, but rebadge them. OCZ's GameXstream PSUs are really Fortrons, some of Antec's models (as well as Corsair's) are made by Seasonic, ATI branded videocards come from Sapphire, eVGA nForce4 mobos were made by Jetway (haven't looked into who produces their i680 model) and the list goes on.

My point in this is that I wouldn't immediately discredit a company from branching out with their product line, it just depends on who's actually making each peripheral.
