Default I don't know what's the problem for this guy.

You guys mind helping me with this dude on the NewCelica forum. He bought a new XFX 7600GT and is not allowed to run games at 1280x1024. He was able to before with his older ATI card. He says he has the latest drivers as well.

Thanks,
Sameer

Snap. I realized that link won't work unless you're a member (it's in the off topic forum).

I'll just quote his posts.

Quote:
At first I thought this was an issue with a particular game, but it seems to be more widespread. I have an XFX Geforce 7600 GT. I'm running it at 1280x1024 native resolution. Now my issue:

A good number of my games will not allow me to set my resolution to 1280x1024 even though I know they can be run in that resolution and I was able to play them at that resolution with my old ATI card - now that I've switched to this card I have lost the option to run this res. I can only choose LOWER resolutions capping at 1024x768. Some games let me, others don't. The option for 1280x1024 just doesn't show up with those titles.

I have the latest drivers and everything.
Quote:
I was using 1280x1024 with my ATI card and I'm using the same now. As soon as I switched to the Nvidia though a number of games that I was running at 1280x1024 would no longer show that resolution as being available. The highest I can run them now is 1024x768.

The games in question most notably are Command and Conquer Generals, Lord of the Rings - Battle for middle earth, and Civilization III. I also just installed Morrowind and read in a few places that it should run at 1280x1024 but I don't get that option there either. All the games are all patched to the max as well.

Just a real oddity thats been bugging me.

It's also a violation of the rules to link to another forum, so you may want to edit your post before Capper sees it

Yuri....the way I read the forum rules, you can't spam the forum with links. One link, as is the case here, should be OK in this situation. If he were to say, "This forum sucks, I'm hanging out at this forum <insert link>, come join me there", then that would violate the intent of the rules as I read them. Capper will come along and correct me if I'm mistaken.

That being said, @OP, it doesn't sound like the guy has the drivers installed properly. I would have him remove the drivers, use Driver Cleaner Pro in safe mode to remove all traces of the old drivers, then reinstall. If he only has two or three resolutions available to him, then it's a failed driver install completely as that's what you get with the standard Windows VGA adapter. You may want to have him tell you what Hardware Devices says he has installed.

Also, if he DOES have the right drivers installed, installing NVTweak will unlock other resolutions. However, he will need to be careful he doesn't over clock the nutz off his card.

Has he mentioned whether he's gotten any blue screens? In particular, the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error. If so, then Tom would certainly be correct.

He hasn't mentioned that.

The other thing is, did he uninstall the ATI drivers?!?!

If he still has the ati drivers installed in his system, that could surly be causing a serious problem.

Good clarification. I should have said use DriverCleaner Pro to remove both sets of drivers.

Only want one set of drivers on the system at a time.
