Default EVGA 8800 GS not posting, need help

Hey everyone,
I just got my EVGA 8800GS and I installed it properly, and the computer goes through the whole boot process and loads up windows, but nothing will post on my monitors. I have tried single display, 2 different ones, and nothing. I then put it in my roommates comp, and..same result. I have a 550w AGI PS, and my roommate has a 500w thermaltake, intel core 2 duo e6600, an abit mobo, and 1 gig of Gskill ram. My specs are posted in my signature. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Does it display the POST screen or the Windows loading screen or can you just hear the beeps and the Windows log-on sound and know that it's working? How do you have it connected to the monitor (DVI-VGA adapter)? Have you tried installing your old card back in to see if it works?

My motherboard gives me the code and I can hear the startup sounds as well.It only connects through DVi and that is what my monitors connect through. I have my old video card in now and its working like always.

hmm default all the BIOS settings, maybe might as well clear the CMOS while you're at it.

no im not trying to make it seem like i think you're dumb or anything, but mistakes happen like making sure its in the right PCIe slot, make sure the extra power connector is in, make sure the card is well-fastened in place and screwed in (or held in) the proper mounts through the back of the case....etc...

if this doesn't help, im kinda boggled on this one...

did you clear out the drivers for your gtx?
That would FUBAR your system.

Ok, you still aren't making it clear to me. At any point does your monitor display anything at all from the computer?

Drivers don't matter when you first boot up, the BIOS and splash screens work off the Video Cards BIOS

If you have ANYTHING on your screen, let us know as blake said. If the monitor stays off or gives a no signal message, then its probably a fubared card. If the monitor comes on but stays black, the card may be fine. Let us know so we can help your further!

This is most likely the power supply he is using...
3.3v = 32A
5v = 38A
12v1 = 18A
12v2 = 17A
While those specs aren't ideal for a 550W PSU, it should still be enough to power his system. nVidia recommends at least a 450W PSU with at least 30A of +12v power for a single 8800 series card.
