| Hello everyone, what do you think is the best graphics cards to buy for playing in resolution 1280x 1024 with high AA/AF. I am currently looking to buy a new graphics cards and got my selection down to 3 cards: ATI 3870 512MB - around £140 ($275) 8800GT 512MB, - around £160 ($315) 8800GTS 512MB. - around £200 ($390) Value for money is also a matter, i know 8800GTS 512mb is the best card in the list but is there a big different in performance in that resolution? Which card would you guys recommand to buy? The games i want to play are oblivion, Half life, World in Conflict and the new games that are coming out. Thanks Last edited by MaxRyan; February 3rd, 2008 at 11:44. |

| From what I heard, the 8800GT is probs the best choise for that res and for the value for money so it gets my vote. |

| Colonel Calamity | pretty much either the 8800GT or HD3870 would very very good choices. One spot where the 3870 steps above the rest is the PCIe 2.0 and DirectX 10.1 compatibilities which will make it much more able to handle newer hardware if you choose up upgrade your system in the next year or two and it may be with this newer hardware that it starts to shine over the nvidia 8XXX series cards (maybe). ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | Um for AA the GT will perform worse than the GTS. There is only 1 card really that can handle AA well and thats the GTX. |

| I would go for the 8800GT also, but the HD3870 is a close second. Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 + Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme DFI Blood Iron P35-T2RL + Thermalright HR-05 IFX 2GB G.Skill 800MHz F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB Silverstone Decathlon 650W Western Digital 250GB SATA II |

| HL's Technomancer | The 8800GT is the superior choice over the HD3870, if on a budget the HD3850 would be my pick instead of the 3870. The only drawback of the 8800GT is the weak HSF and high temps, so try to grab either Evga or XFX which have a BIOS you can download to improve the fanspeed or just use RivaTuner to fix it. | Modder-ator | At 1280x1024, you could get away with any 8800 series card or any HD 3800 series card just fine. Out of the cards you listed (which are all very good by the way), the 8800GTS 512MB would be the best performer, next would be the 8800GT 512MB, followed very closely by the HD3870.
