Default A Baker's Dozen of 7950GT reviews

Quote:
THESE DAYS, VIDEO CARDS ARE like shark's teeth: one pops out, and another one moves up to take its place. The most recent GeForce to come loose is the 7900 GT; it was dislodged by last week's launch of the GeForce 7900 GS, which offers the same performance for about a hundred bucks less. The 7900 GT's demise leaves Nvidia with a hole it its lineup at around $299, and so the GeForce 7950 GT makes its debut today as the 7900 GT's replacement.

Like a host of GeForce 7900 and 7950 cards before it, the 7950 GT is based on the G71 graphics processor, which Nvidia has been milking like nobody's business. You can buy a whole line of graphics cards based on this chip situated at different price points, with performance finely attenuated to match--all the better to separate you from your money. The GeForce 7950 GT makes hitting that "submit" button at Newegg even easier because it promises substantially better performance than the 7900 GT it replaces.

Of course, this is a technology product we're talking about, so the decision about what to buy can never be simple. The GeForce 7950 GT's life is complicated by one very strong rival: the 256MB version of the Radeon X1900 XT that ATI introduced earlier this month. Like the 7950 GT, the X1900 XT 256MB is slated to go on sale at online retailers today. This new ATI card packs half the memory of the 7950 GT, but sports ATI's exceptionally powerful R580 GPU with a daunting 48 pixel shader processors. Oh, and the ATI card's price tag is a tad bit lower, too.

That means we have the opportunity for at least one more head-to-head matchup between the green and red teams before ATI melts into AMD, changing the landscape forever. Can the newest GeForce fend off a feisty competitor from ATI, or has the balance of power in graphics shifted? More importantly, what video card actually makes sense to buy these days? Read on for the answers.

Will the XFX's 'silent approach' in their design of the 7950 GT be a flash-in-the-pan idea that in a few months is a distant memory or will it truly be a fleeting glimpse of what the future has to offer. Join me today in Bjorn3D lab while we put this card through it's paces to find out for sure. I will assure you that shy of running this card in a fanless case we will have no mercy pursuant to its new design. At the end you can be the judge.

“The GeForce 7950 GT we'll be evaluating today comes by way of XFX. In typical XFX fashion, the company has mutliple GeForce 7950 GT offerings in their product stack, the $299 PV-T71J-YHF9, which is clocked at NVIDIA's reference specifications of 550MHz / 1.4GHz, and the $329 PV-T71J-YHE9 which is not only clocked a bit higher at 570MHz / 1.46GHZ, but also sports a silent, passive cooling solution.”

Now I must say this sounds like a sweet card And I do favor Nvidia over ATI...........Nvidia been doing a great job the past few year or so.......
Now as for the comment of (here is the quote)

Quote:
This card essentially trounced the 7900 GS XT as badly as the 7900 GS XT besmirched the older model 7800 GT. I'd say NVIDIA® and XFX® have clearly outdone themselves in rapidly bringing to market the best line of graphics cards that I believe are currently available.
Trounced...........Um that's a little extreme...........
I think the industry has duped us into thinking a few FPS is some huge great gain...........Now don't get me wrong..........this card looks nice but 15FPS when your already running a 7800gt is not that BIG of a deal.........
At least not when you consider your going to spend $300 bucks on it.
I'll probably be waiting for a few more cards come out before I give up my 7800gt. Which by the way runs great.........If I swapped to a 7950gt would I notice a difference when playing ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm well ummmmmmmmmm not 300 dollars worth anyway..........that's for sure.
Now if you you have a older generation car well then hell ya ............go for it............
I just think for those of us computer enthusiast well we make to big a deal about a few FPS!!
Now as for a fanless well this is where this card excels. WOW would I love to get rid of one more fan..........I think this is much more of a selling point than to say the 7950 Trounces last gen cards............For the the water way to much money and work..........Lets go fanless ..........I must say I'm excited where the industry is going with fanless . Been wanting a (quiet) computer for quite some time now................
Well thats my 2 cent ................All in all I think we know it's a great card and if I had to buy a card right now this would win hands down IF your looking in the 300 dollar range.............wouldn't even have to think about it............But I''d rather spend my 300 on a new monitor or something else I needed..................But if your in the market for a new card and want best bang for buck no need to look anywhere else!!!!!!!! Nice job Nvidia!
The whisper quite feature (no fan) would push me to this over any others right now.
