that is the standard program to do it... also i believe the standard nvidia driver program will allow some OC as well but that depends on the card and driver version

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

As an FYI, ATITool will also work on Nvidia cards.

And you're better off with rivatuner over both of them tbh. Or if you're using an EVGA card, try their precision tool.

(thanks blake!)

I like Rivatuner as well, and precision is another excellent choice.

I prefer ATItool for nVidia cards. I've just got more stable runs than with nTune or Rivatuner. There's also a graphic to check for artifacts while it's up and being tinkered with. The others seem to just allow you to pump the card up and you have to run around to see if it's good or not.

For ATI cards, the Catalyst Control Center does it all really well.

Certain ATI cards wouldn't overclock "the same" when using Catalyst Control Center, as if CCC messed with the memory timings (loosening them?) and thus allowing a higher frequency but with a result of less performance nonetheless.
Also CCC has been plagued with a bug since the dawn of time whereas it won't install properly the majority of the time if your OS isn't an English US version. That's Windows XP and I frankly haven't tested with Vista.

I absolutely love ATItool artifact scanner though, it's a very good application to heat up your GPU when checking for temps or stability.

I normally use RivaTuner for nVidia simply because ATItool didn't seem to play nice with the 8800 series for some time. I don't like the way RivaTuner is set-up though, I think it could be much simpler than it currently is.
