| Hi For some reason whenever I boot up into Win XP SP2 the refresh rate of the graphics card always seems to be 60Hz, even though when I check it states it is 85Hz (as it should be). It's a Radeon 9700 Pro 128Mb running on a 21 CRT. I have checked the monitor on a different card and it works fine. When you reboot the computer it works fine. It's jsut annoying having to reboot the computer after it is started up for the first time. I have the latest drivers and patches etc. It has always done it regardless. It does the same thing on Vista as well. Any advice would be appreciated. There are no hardware conflicts in device manager BTW and it does it even on a clean install. Perhaps it's a faulty card. ![]() |

| Its a 'Digital' one, pretty old. It works fine with other graphics cards I have used it on in the same resolution. Do not know the exact model number. I am running it in 1280x1024 @85Hz (does the same if run in lower res/refresh). I know this monitor can handle 1600x1200 @ 75Hz so I dont think it is an issue with the monitor. |

| This one has me stumped. Are you sure your not just looking at the vertical refresh rate? One thing you could try if you are absolutely sure its still at 60Hz is use the refresh rate over ride tool in ATi tray tools ATI Tray Tools Install this, right click the icon, Direct3D, refresh rate override, custom, and set it where you want. | nope i'm deffinatley doing it right! do you think the card could be dying? |

| Modder-ator | That is a strange issue, but I don't think the card is dying. You could try the Omega Drivers and see if that makes a difference. I think there is an advanced option in there to lock the refresh rate. Just make sure you uninstall and clear out all the Catalyst driver stuff before you install the Omega Drivers. |
