Default 9800GX2's have been released...

It will be interesting to see how fast places like Newegg and ZZF sell out on these videocards. For the cost of a single GX2, you could buy two 8800GTS (G92) in SLI and obtain similar performance for much less.

Newegg has declared a limit of 50 EVGA 9800GX2's per customer though.

Newegg.com - EVGA 01G-P3-N891-AR GeForce 9800 GX2 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

$600? thats not as bad as I was expecting... of course it is just 2x 8800 cores tied together...

Thanks HL and Corsair!

you know, i just realized that it has HDMI on it. HMMMMMMM to stepup or not to stepup.
even though it'll be a TOTAL waste of $$ lol
*edit*
just went to EVGA site, they doing a 120 day stepup for the 9800GX2, tells you something that they don't think its gonna push out that much that they offering people who purchased cards 4 months ago for stepup, must be targeting the GT users to offset the cost. 600-360=240 for stepup. HMMMMMM

You know, I'm suprised though. Every single one of those GX2's listed at the Newegg site (particularly the EVGA and BFG cards) are all stock at 600Mhz core and 2,000Mhz memory. I would have thought that, in order to make the 9800GX2 a more "compelling" purchase, that some of the companies known for factory overclocking (and OC warranties thereof) would have released higher clocked 9800GX2's.

Well, they've barely been released. I'm sure the overclocked versions will come soon enough after they've had time to gauge market interest.

as i understand it... one of the advantages (or disadvantages) of buying a new release card is that they have not been 'binned' or separated for OC potential yet. so your chances of getting a superior card (read: highly overclockable) are higher then they would be later on after vendors have separated the cards into stock and overclocked groups.

I would rather read a NewEgg review than a [H] review

im SOO torn, i just got the Accelero S1 cooler and put it on my GTS, but 248 for a step-up aint that bad. I know its nothing special per say, and performance isn't that great, but im so tempted! And i won't be able to sell this GTS for the 359.99 i paid in january, in terms of getting maximum value i think i may step this up to it.

if you want it, can afford it and it will quench your desire for high end, i say do it. put that economic stimulus check to use! just remember to submit a User Review after you get it!
