| I've been searching on ways to improve my video card through the bios such as the PCI e x 1 slot and through NTUNE 5.5. Right now i am more than confused as to where i should overclock. Can anyone help me??? My specs on my 8800 gtx are 575/1800. Is there a way i can boost it up to lets say 600/2000? Please i need help ASAP. I just finished getting a stable overclock to my cpu of 3.48ghz so i am trying to enhance my gaming now cuz im a GAMER!!! i heard overclocking the video card greatly increases performance so i would like some people to sennd me some pics of some of their specs or examples. Thank you guys!!! | Colonel Calamity | I honestly wouldn't worry about over clocking it as it would only give maybe 2-5 fps better on any current or future games. That 8800 is so far ahead of anything else that I personally don't see any point in OC it. |

| T-Rex | I second this statement. You will likely gain very little performance seeing as you have the most powerful video card currently available. Even overclocking your CPU at some point could be considered useless. |

| I'm Diggin it! | I'll third this. Overclocking a video card results in very little performance gain at huge risk. Unlike a CPU/System Ram, where as long as you keep the voltage within spec you're not likely to cause damage by bumping the FSB, a Video card's memory can be easily fried by overclocking. And I do mean easily. The temps for the ram can skyrocket so fast as to fry the card before you even have a chance to de-clock it or shut your system down. Congrats on overclocking your CPU! Are you running a temp monitoring program that let's you see what the CPU temps are? | Agreed OC'ing a video card is a waste of effort and specially that card. WELCOME to the forum by the way. Last edited by Jokerswild; February 24th, 2007 at 10:37. |

| The Real Final Word | I don't know if you have tried the coolbits 2 yet, but it might be worth a shot!! The Guru of 3D Download Section I don't know if it will work with the 8800 series of cards or not. |

| Well i'm just wondering because i feel bad that i didn't spend an extra 40$ for a 626/2000 8800 gtx. 575/1800 seems like a big difference to me... I just think it would have been better to do it. I read on some guides that if u overclock your gpu it has a SIGNIFICANT boost to the performance of the card, but hearing it from you people has really shown me that maybe i shouldn't have to. I was thinkin about bringing my PCI e x 1 Slot in my bios to 135 mhz. It's at 125 on default. So im guessing this wouldn't help at all. Oh ya and I used prime95, TAT, and memtest86+ all this morning and everything seemed to be stable with no errors. I'm glad about that. My temp at HIGHEST was 54 C. For about 10 seconds it was at 57 C but i aint counting that because i was burning a CD at the same time and surfing the web lol. I ran the program for 4-5 hours. Everything seemed fine. At low during PRIME95 it was 51 C or 52 C. I'm not too sure but it's either one of the 2. Right now its around 42 C- 45 C constantly. Are there anyways i can get it down to 38 C?? I have a ZALMAN 9700. I'm expecting great TEMPS not mediocre. Thanks guys REPLY PLEASE!!! Oh and thanks for Welcoming me guys. I'll actually go into my bios and ill give u all the specs and id like for u guys to tell me if i should change anything ok? I want the lowest temps possible!! I OC'd a lot of different video cards and never fried one. you just have to be careful and KEEP THE TEMPS DOWN!!! Quote:
just check out the article I wrote on the OC of my 6800LE and you will change this opinion: 6800LE cooling mod with Thermalright SI-97 I wouldnt call 108% increase in performance a waste of effort. Granted: not all video cards are good overclockers (the GF5700 and the ATI 700 were poor OC'ers ) but some have great potential and with much better cooling (and volt increase) you can make a beast out of a mouse sometimes. on the other hand I see no reason right now to OC the 8800GTX, since all games would run on it just fine for now. you might consider some OC in the future as new games with more demanding graphics come in but be carefull, do some research on this before you do it ![]() Main rig: Chieftec modded case,MSI P4N Diamond, D830@3.48Ghz,1.4V,928FSB 2GB patriot Extreme Performance 6400@900Mhz, 4-4-4-17 Inno3D 7900GT@542Mhz/1.6Ghz, Thermalright SI-97 Samsung 320GB, Maxtor 250GB; Antec 500W Swiftech NB, Asus StarIceBlue CPU cooler; XP Pro Laptop: Dell XPS 1530 (T7500; 3GB 667 RAM; 160GB 7200rpm HDD; 8600GT; Vista 32bit) my 6800LE mod Last edited by sbohdan; February 24th, 2007 at 12:23. | ||

| Colonel Calamity | typically the mid range cards have more overclocking room than the high end ones do. If it was something like an 8600 or 8400 then he would have much more headroom to overclock but an 8800 is pretty close to the higher end of the line and is not likely to give much satisfaction overclocked, just 2-5fps in most cases. |
