Default 6800 > x800?

My friend is letting me try his HIS IceQTurbo Radeon X800, and I found that it gets about 1400 less 3D Marks in 3dmark05.

I loaded up bf2 and put all the settings on high and boosted the res to the next highest, and it runs at about 40-70 fps, depending on what i'm doing (40 when driving a tank and looking @ the smoke trail of treads, 60 when looking forwards)

I haven't done any real messing with the graphics on the 6800 before I put the x800 in, so I don't know if the 6800 is actually better than an x800, but it does get a lot more 3dmarks.

Any input on this mystery? the x800 is supposed to be better but it gets less on the benches.

I guess I can run CoH video test and an hl2 video test as well. I'll do those soon and then uninstall x800/reinstall 6800 and run them again and see who gets better numbers again.

no, its completely stock. I haven't OC'd it at all.

I have the x800 overclocked quite a bit. It is to 427 core and 562 memory (from 400/490) and my friend said the memory is dual channel or something so its 2x the speed

your friend is prolly talking about the ram being 256bit which will give you more performance than a 128bit memory bus. based off the card clocks it sounds like a vanilla x800 or an x800xl which will be outperformed by a 6800gs anyday (in the case of a vanilla x800. the x800xl would put up more of a fight cause it has 16 pixel pipes compared to the vanilla x800's 12)

ATI's Report the memory base speed, so multiply the base by x2 to get the effective memory clock. :)

EDIT: But yeah, I'm not surprised the x800 gets beat. My x800 pro unlocked to 12 pipes, then OCed to about 640core/690mem, got aroung 6600 in 3D Mark 05

you should unlock the pipes on your 6800GS. Gives a LARGE performance boost.

I'm going to have to agree with that, unlocking the pipes on my x800 Pro gave something like a 1600 point increase in 3D Mark
