Default What Mobo?

Hi Everyone

Decided to build an AM2 (Socket 940) machine based around a 3800 X2 but cannot decide on a mobo.I don't really need SLI but would need to be overclocking friendly.Any thoughts?

Thanks

John

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

What's your budget? Until told otherwise, I'll assume you're looking for a budget oriented pricetag. That being the case, I'd look at DFI's offering, though we haven't personally reviewed this motherboard:

DFI Infinity UltraII-M2 - $101 shipped
Review (PC Modding Malaysia)

I also imagine that the MSI K9N Neo-F ($83 shipped) would hold a respectable OC similar to it's more feature filled sibling, the K9N SLI Platinum.

And finally, let me beat Rich (Capper) to the punch and point out our Recommended Lists for various pricing tiers, though we've only reviewed a couple of AM2 mobos at this early stage.

Just built a 3800+ X2 on a Asus M2N-E - $93.99 + $6.41 shipping.
It's a fairly great board IMO, and pretty cheap too for what it sports (Nforce 570 Ultra). Got up to 2.6Ghz pretty easily.

Thank you One4yu2c for your reply.I'm not realy on a budget but I just think alot of the features on top boards would not be used by me.But a little overclocking never hurts,it would be rude not to.

Thanks

John

Thank you polobunny for your reply. The MN2-E was my origional first choice ,but I read a few reviews that slated it.But if your doing that well I think it should go back on the list.By the way, what cooler did you use?

Thanks

John

Stock cooler, the 2.6ghz didn't require much voltage. :)
The chipset doesn't hot like nForce 4 Ultra (s939) so even being cooled with a heatpipe it's all fine and dandy.

the best AM2 board I've used thusfar is the EPox MF570SLI....the 570 chipset is just as good as the 590SLI MCP, it overclocks very well, and has a ton of features that I really liked

INTEL QX9650
ASUS P5E3 Premium
4GB DDR3-1600
Sapphire HD 3870X2
Danger Den Tower-26 (Custom W/C)
5 x Seagate 250GB HDD in RAID5
BFG ES 800W PSU
