Default Very Messy Night with DS3 rev.3.3

ok... cut the story short... i cleaned my comp with a conventional canned air duster, and what do you know all of a sudden, puff bang inside the computer then shutdown by itself...

my mobo short circuited ... and fryed something... took me 2 hours to isolate where is the thing burning, [ actually i was praying so it be only the PSU but] the mobo was burnt at the RAM slot #1

[sorry i gave away my digicam, this was taken by my webcam]

so what i did is took everything apart ...
then put them back together again...
so instead of buying a new digicam and new headset, i'm planning to check if i can RMA this mobo if not then i have to buy a new mobo...

which is a total PITA right now...

i hope when i shut this thing down i will open again tommorrow...

I have a sneaking suspicion that when you used your canned air you a) had the computer on, and b) super frozen air in a fine mist came out of the can and came into conact with live circuits on the motherboard, thus blowing out your mobo.

I have a feeling that while you were blowing air inside your case while the computer was on, you might have inadvertently shook the can which caused the air that came out of the nozzle to spray in a mist.

no the computer was off, i let it dry in case there are fine mist for 3-5mins...
then the computer was on for about 15-30min, then puff bang shutdown...
i was able to restart the mobo after 2-3hours of looking for the burnt smell which lead me to the 1st slot of RAM in the mobo totally burnt in the upper clip... [bad webcam can see it to bright]...

i was thinking that it maybe to early when i turned it on... and also the northbridge was blazing hot... even with the AC on and all fans in full throttle.

i cant sleep damn... well, i found this i kinda like it Newegg.com - ABIT IP35-E LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
any input if this thing worth the buck in case i can't RMA this DS3 of mine...

Out of curiosity, did you keep the can of compressed air vertical while spraying? Not doing so can cause it to shoot out in liquid form, and depending on how much soaked into those RAM slots, a 3-5 minute drying time wouldn't have been nearly long enough.

yup, it got wet a lil bit but as far as i can remember if it didnt shot into the RAM slots, and beside all the RAM slot was occupied that time...
now the mobo is functioning except that i cant put my RAM at slot no.1...
and Gigabyte is still closed... dang i woke up so early...

do you think they will allow me to RMA this DS3, its still 4months old?

How cold was the ambient? If it was 70 degrees or over, the refrigerant used in the air dusters would have been completely evaporated in the time of 15-30 minutes, but it IS possible that it cooled down your motherboard slightly, which aloud for condensation to form.

I believe gigabyte will still RMA it without any big problems, as long as you didn't physically modify the board in anyway.

Is it possible there was any metal shavings that could have been floating around your case?

I'm sure it's covered for one year...no?

Either way, that does suck dude. And things like this happen, unfortunately.

If you can't get it RMA'd, then I say go for the same board. It's not too much of a set back unless you need an even cheaper one for now.

Also, you gotta be really careful using that stuff. I always let it dry for about an hour or two regardless just to be safe.

i just spoked with a Gigabyte Tech, and they said in advance even though they gana review the pix i send and the situation, that any physical damage such a burnt marks and not covered by the warranty.

so i stink right now, with a dying Mobo...
