| I think this is the right section. Was debating between here and the software section. I'm updating my Asus P5w DH Deluxe motherboard to be able to handle my Q6600 GO stepping chip. My question is.....I download the bios update to my harddrive and then unzip it with the target being the floppy disk drive. Yes? Then I follow the directions on Asus about updating the bios using the EZ Flash method. I've never done this before and I'm a little apprehensive. I bought some floppy disks and they say "Formatted IBM". These are OK aren't they? | The EZ Flash method is a little different from the norm. You can have the BIOS file unzipped on a CD/flash drive/floppy (doesn't have to be bootable). Insert whatever medium you are using and go into the BIOS. Go to the EZ Flash section and locate the BIOS file. Select it, and let EZ Flash do the rest. | We take both criticism and positive comments very positively | ASUS' EZ Flash is the easiest BIOS flashing method I've ever seen, works like a charm INTEL E8400 // Gigabyte EP45 Extreme // 4GB DDR3-1600 // Palit HD 4870 // Antec 1200 // Seagate 750GB HDD // Zalman CNPS9700 // BFG ES 800W PSU |

| I believe so. I always did it with a flash drive, and it was very straight forward. E8400 DFI Blood Iron P35-T2RL 2GB G.Skill 800MHz ASUS 9600GT TOP Silverstone DA650W WD 250GB + Seagate 160GB |

| We take both criticism and positive comments very positively | LOL, Thanks.... Ok, take the actual .ROM file thats inside the ASUS BIOS file, and save it to the USB key. Reboot, and go into the BIOS ("DELETE" at POST screen). In the BIOS go all the way to the right, to "TOOLS", and go into the sub-menu, you should see ASUS EZ-Flash. It'll ask you if you want to go there, say yes (Dont "say it" click yes)......and it'll take you to a new screeen.....follow the easy directions, and let it run its course. After the BIOS is flashed and the system reboots....shutdown the system, and clear the BIOS, either by jumper or by pulling the battery.......then power it back on and update the settings you want in the BIOS. | Colonel Calamity | I am loving the USB capability of these new flash programs... better than trying to rely on outdated floppies ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. |

| We take both criticism and positive comments very positively | Definitely....now if we could get companies to drop their Windows based flashing apps that are killing boards, and standardize the ASUS method, we'd have a much easier time helping people. | Capper, you totally lost me completely and totally. I have no idea what your talking about. 1. The .rom file that's inside the Asus Bios file? You mean when I download the update to my hardrive from the Asus website, look in that for the .rom file? 2. UBS key? I don't know what your talking about. all I have is a floppy drive. 3. After the BIOS is flashed and the system reboots....shutdown the system, and clear the BIOS, either by jumper or by pulling the battery.......then power it back on and update the settings you want in the BIOS. ?????? What the heck is this? I didn't see this on the Asus website. But I trust you. So after I update and it reboots, shut it down and take out the cmos battery and put it back in and then reset my Bios settings for memory, overclocking ect....Is this what your talking about? You threw me some curves here. I haven't read anything like this, but like I said...your "the man". I'll do it. Let me know about #1,2, and 3. My wife doesn't know I bought the quad this past summer and I'll do it tomorrow when she's at work so she don't ask me a mililon questions.
