Default Tul AX480A-GF (ATI Xpress 200P)

This board has worked quite flawlessly for over 5 months with my 3000+ Venice 939 processor. But, recently i've attempted to upgrade to a 3700+ San Diego 939 and when it is supposed to post-- I get a fatal error. "Unknown processor revision".

I've flashed my bios and it still doesn't post. Other than that i've RMA'd the chip to see if it was just a bad one.

Any suggestions?

Just wondering if you have changed anything in the bios??

I don't know that board personally, but I would go through the bios real carfully!

Questions that come to mind, did you do any overclocking, or change any memory, reset your bios to default, (which I might add, might not be a bad idea).

Just a few questions that come to mind.

Have you checked with the motherboard web site to make sure that it supports the 3700, jeez I can't imagine it wouldn't, but you never know. And are you sure that your bios flash took afect? One of the other things that just come to mind, is that after flashing a bios, just exactly what settings where aplied in the bios?
Some times things can get kind of screwy in the bios after flashing.

Check and double check your bios setting!!!

And by the way,,,,,,Welcome to the forum, and this fine community!!!!

Seriously? An AMD board not supporting all CPUs. That's insane... :)

Nah, it might have been RMA, it might have been something else. Check BIOS as mentioned..

Thanks for the welcoming.

In any case-- i'm thinking was a bad chip. The BIOS settings are all in order, although when I put the chip in the first time the CMOS settings corrupted. I had to put the 3000+ back in and set it back up. Otherwise, with the 3000+ back in it runs perfectly again.

I tried installing the chip before and after BIOS flashes. I think the BIOS was actually identical to the one I previously had. They had no others available for download at their website.

Well, it sure does sound like it could be a bad chip

I would RMA the chip, (just to make sure) and hopfully they send you a good one!
Where did you buy the chip from?

I sent the chip back right after it didn't work the second time. So, I'm hoping the second one will work. The chip was purchased from good ole Newegg.

That's a very strange problem, especially since the Venice and San Diego cores are from the same generation and if one works with a particular BIOS, the other should work too. Did you clear the CMOS by removing the battery and switching the jumper before you installed the San Diego chip?

I did, but I doubt it was for long enough. Either way-- I get the chip tomorrow.
