Default temper sensor/probe placement

hey i have a striker extreme mobo and when i put my pc together back last summer i never put the temperature sensor/probe's on.

i am wanting to put them in tonight... but where exactly do i put them? between the heatsink and processor? or how about the other few.. what would be recommended for placement?

TIA

You shouldn't put anything between the heatsink and the processor except thermal paste. Doing so will create a gap which can be deadly to your CPU.
At best, put it between fins of the heatsink. As for the rest, it's always up to you. A heatsink is a "decent" indicator, but even then they don't serve much of a purpose if only for your curiosity.

the "closest" thing you can prob do is put it next to the base of the processor slot. The temp sensor manufactures all say don't put anything between the sink and the CPU, the sensor is more a novelty than actual temp. I have them on my LEXA nexa, and its about 4 degrees off from what CPU-Z and Asus Probe reads it as

so i shouldn't really bother using it then?

on my asus board.. what temps can it automatically monitor without the probes? maybe i can put them someone that doesn't have a temp.. or not use them at all.

If you use Asus' utilities that come with the CD and available for d/l from Asus, it can show you all the relevant temps, processor, MB temp, etc. For my P5K its the AiSuite.

I always put my probes (when I had em) on the side opposite of the CPU on the other side of the motherboard. It's pretty obvious where it is when you look at it from that angle.

I always got good readings :P
