Default sli question...

i know that selling sli memory pairs is a nice gimmick but what about motherboards? I want to get the gigabyte EX38-DQ6 purely for the 2.0 PCI-e slots however it says it have dual x16 PCI-e and supports crossfire x... but would it be able to run 2 9600 gt's in SLI ? if not what new motherboards should i be looking at in terms of a gaming spec pc? and is the 790i with ddr3 range worth the expense?

Nvidia nForce based boards are the only option for running SLI, unless you want to shell out a ton for a Skulltrail based board. 650i, 680i, 780i, and 790i all support SLI on the Intel side.

Personally, I've had nothing but bad experiences with this newest crop of nForce boards, nForce 4 and 3 were awesome but my time with the 680i and 590 SLI have been nothing but trouble. Unless you really want to hook up two GeForce cards, I'd go with an X48 instead.

Honestly, and this is just my $.02, SLI just isn't worth it unless you play on a crazy-huge display. You're much better off buying the best single card you can afford than to buy two decent cards for SLI. Unless of course, you're made of money and it's just no object. In that case, disregard.

Oh, and don't get me started on Tri-SLI...3 Ultras/GTX's in favor of no X-Fi card leaving me at the mercy of Realtek?!! No friggin' way. Ever.

i always thought that was the idea b4 i saw sli in a case at my comp fair it looks very nice... but my current idea would be the x48-ds5 coupled with either a silent cooled 9600 gt or something from the 8800 range but id like it to be quiet if fan cooled. any suggestions?
