Question Question about fried MoBo

Hey guys, need some help.

My dad's computer recently stopped working. We took it to Circuit City to have them run a diagnosis and it came back that the motherboard was fried .. It's an old HP a462x.

I was wondering if we could just replace the fried one with a new motherboard? Also, where can one find a motherboard with a Socket-478, DDR memory, and AGP slot?

Thanks :)

NewEgg has it!
Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

Small selection, I will agree.
Are you sure the mobo is fried? Although not rare, it's not all that common either.

Not fried, just not working anymore. Something with the on-board graphics.

Sorry I can't elaborate, irnoob.

Edit: I already checked out those mobo's.. problem with those is that they don't support AGP cards and take DDR2 memory :(.. otherwise those would be perfect.

Socket 478 has no DDR2 support. You are entitled to either PC100/133 or DDR266/333/400.

Edit: What the??!!!
Newegg.com - MSI 945GCM478-L 478 Intel 945GC Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards
Says it supports DDR2 @_@. I will look info on the chipset, because now I'm frankly lost haha.

MSI Computer Corp. - Product

Wow okay, this seems like a hacked up Intel 945G chipset, frankenstein'ed with a socket 478. Something I've never seen before, I'll be honest. :P

If you go to this page for CPU support, you will notice there's no entry for the MSI 945GCM478-L. Therefore, you do not know what socket 478 processors would be supported.
MSI -- MICRO-STAR INT'L CO., LTD.

Personally, this would leave me to "motherboard really fried?". :P
I do not trust big places such as CC, BB or any other. Actually, I don't think you should trust more smaller places, although they might lose more if they're caught trying to fool you. Do you have details, other than "the motherboard is fried" on your computer status?

Something about the on-board graphics.. would you need more info than that because I can find that out.

Edit: Initially, the problem was that the there was nothing being displayed on the monitor when it was turned on, however the computer ran fine. We originally thought it was the graphics card or RAM but both checked out fine.
