| I have heard that some mobo have some problems when paired with the Q6600, even though they are supposed to be supported. I think a particular chipset is having trouble. I read something about it, but havent been able to find the info again. | ||||||||||||||

| nvidia's chipset is pretty notorious for problems with the Quad, especially the 680i chipset. You cant' go wrong with the intel P35 chipset for quad support. | ||||||||||||||

| Welcome to HL!!! ![]() I believe it was the nVidia chipsets that sometimes don't like the Q6600. (edit: darnit azianai, beat me to it....) But this is fixed by updating the BIOS, so you should be fine with whatever mobo you choose. Whats your budget for a mobo? Are you going to run SLI/CrossFire? What are the complete system spec's? | ||||||||||||||

| The Final Word
| Yes, the NVIDIA 680i and 780i boards had a lot of trouble with Quads, the 790i is a much better board, but when you have developed a reputation, sometimes its hard to shed it. I am a big fan of the INTEL chipsets, the P35/X38/X48 are all very good options. For a budget to mainstream board, check out Gigabyte's P35 boards, which are very good. For high end enthusiast builds, the ASUS P5E3 Premium or ASUS Maximus Extreme are awesome boards. | it all depends on what you want from it.... If you plan on SLI then go for 790i when it comes available If you plan on ATI Crossfire or a single card then the X48 or P35 would be your best bet. If you want to save a few dollars then look for the Gigabyte EP35-DS3P (or DS3R). ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. | I won't recommend a 780i board to anyone, especially those using a Quad Core processor....too many issues. The 790i boards are a completely different story. | Hi,Well ATM I am running a E4300, but have a Q6600 g0 coming friday. My mobo is a Intel DP965LT that cant be overclocked, so I will be upgrading soon(ish). Got 2x1gb Kingston RAM and a MSI 8600GT (Silent edition) GPU, that I will be up-grading once I get a new mobo and PSU, Antec TruePower 430 Seagate 150gb (need another) Antec P182 (Also coming friday) Big Typhoon VX (coming tomorrow) I feel that about £100 would be the right price to spend on a new mobo considering my spec. | ||||||||||||||
