| hey first post here so hello to everyone, just built my first computer (i work for a computer tech and ive built others, just not my own), and im having a couple of little problems 1) if i boot the pc when a usb device i.e. game controller/flash disk, it errors, and i have to disanble then enable it before it works again, and in the case of the flash disk, uninstall then re-install the root hub it was connected to. 2) windows finds a pci device that doesnt exist (i've got an x-fi but it works fine, as it comes up under audio devices in device manager) and then errors it in device manager coz it cant find the driver to the non-existant hardware. 3) it takes ages to boot, like 12 winxp pro cycles at starupt, i'v heard thats the sound driver, but the installer wont find the HD audio bus and install the driver, so i disabled it in the bios. 4) my dvd drive is read as a scsi device, but i know that its the jmicron controller doing that. 5) my 320gb seagate barracuda is read as 127gb, but i know how to fix that. I'm thinkin a clean windows install may fix some of these probs, but i dont wanna have to redo that coz it takes so long to put all my games back on. any help appreciated on those probs that i dont know how to fix |

| thanks, it was a fresh install, and i've had the pc about 1 month, the pci device problem has been there since the start, and the usb only since i got the drivers to work properly, windows couldn't find usbech.sys on the disc, then i found it on C:/ drive in asystem file, oh and i'm technically stil running a generic 500w psu, i'm installing the new zalman when it comes in, its only got 1 12v rail, and isn't supplying enough power, u reckon that mite b the proble, coz it can cause all sorts of crazy crap Last edited by g-relk; March 21st, 2007 at 21:10. |

| that 12v rail could DEFINITELY and VERY easily be the problem. based on ur descriptions, it looks promising. i have a P5B Deluxe, and out of the (VERY) many mobos ive worked with, this has been by far my favourite (yes, im canadian, eh?) and best/smoothest performing one. i would try to get a PSU from someone with at least 2 12v rails, and im saying for your system 25 to maybe 30A combined should be sufficient. i dont thin'k u'll need more than 500W, but me being how i am i wanna aim 50W higher than required at full load. check this PSU calculator to see what your system would need. a 500-500W Antec would be nice, or a ThermalTake, something like that. OCZ is always good - Corsair too. with all that hardware, a Modular solution is something you'd definitely benefit from! try that first; rule out the easiest things first so u don't have to worry and/or go insane over larger items. good luck, and WELCOME TO HL!~ Last edited by Dr. V; March 22nd, 2007 at 18:16. |

| Colonel Calamity | another idea is go to the motherboard manufacturer website and download the latest drivers for the IDE, smbus and whatever else you can find there... that helped fix a few things on my board in my sig ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | yeah i've got 'em at home ready to try 2nite, its just that i haven't seen the usb port problems as driver problems on other forums, or the weird non existant pci device problem as driver problems, that was all |

| As for the psu, let me just tell you that everyone will always go cheap on the PSU. NEVER do that. Why have a very expensive 1500-2000 dollars machine on a cheap 20 dollar psu? IT doesn't make sense. When a psu goes out, it will destroy AT LEAST the motherboard, if not EVERYTHING. Always have a good quality psu for an expensive rig. Besides, now a day machines need more power. | just doin a clean windows install, i think that the audio deiver problem may hav something to do with the x-fi driver, if not that'll knock out one of the possible problems with it, i'll take the advice on the psu, no more aud$55 psu's, the 600w zalman i ordered should b coming in soon, it cost me aud$176, + postage, and has quad 12v rails, so its otta b better than the current 1, thanks 4 the input, it all helps |

| Colonel Calamity | idea... someone told me of a similar problem with I think the same mobo... they have the same USB issues when they install the Media control something drivers (or is it an app) either from the mobo disc or the website. As soon as they remove that program and let windows use its built in USB drivers and such it works flawlessly. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair!
