Default opinions

I have narrowed it down to two boards, I was just wondering what your thoughts are on these two.

EVGA nforce 780i SLI Motherboard
EVGA nforce 780i SLI Motherboard - A1 Version, NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI, Socket 775, ATX, Audio, PCI Express 2.0, Dual Gigabit LAN, SPDIF, USB 2.0, Firewire, Serial ATA, RAID 132-CK-NF78-A1 at TigerDirect.com
EVGA nForce 750i SLI FTW Motherboard
EVGA nForce 750i SLI FTW Motherboard - NVIDIA nForce 750i, 45nm Support, Socket 775, ATX, PCI Express 2.0, SLI Ready, Gigabit LAN, SPDIF, USB 2.0, Firewire, Serial ATA, RAID 123-YW-E175-A1 at TigerDirect.com

If this helps any..I'm Going to use the E8400 and still undecided on the video cards.
thanks all.

Is there a (D) None of the above option? Unless you're dead-set on a multiple-Nvidia card setup, we have a tough time recommending Nvidia chipsets. They benchmark well, and perform admirably when working, but we've seen no shortage of flaky issues on nForce mobos, running the gamut from minor annoyances on up to dead hardware.

The 750iFTW would be the most stable out of those two. I have the 780i and so far, have had one DOA board. I tried setting up a RAID array on this 780i and it just wouldn't init while overclocking my CPU. Once I set the board to stock speeds, I got the array initialized and the OS installed, but the first time I overclocked, data corruption. Using an add in RAID controller fixes the issue, but for a $250 board, these issues shouldn't exist.

The 750i FTW seems to do so much better than the 780/790 boards. If you HAVE to have SLI, and you need a monitor of 24" or greater for SLI to even be financially sound, then the 750i is what I would go with.

If SLI isn't a NEED, I would go with an Intel board hands down. When the new Intel CPU's come out, I will continue on with my Single, fastest card I can afford and an Intel chipset. I'm done with Nvidia chipsets after this 780i dies or needs to be upgraded. And I have a 24" monitor.

Q6600@ 3.2GHz w/ CNPS9700 | EVGA 780i | 2Gb Corsair DDR2-800 | EVGA GTX 280 1Gb Video | 1x WD 640Gb HDD, 2x Seagate 400Gb HDD, 1x250Gb WD | 2x Samsung SH-203B Opticals | Antec 900 | ABS/Tagan BZ700 700W PSU

Yeah, I honestly don't recommend an NVIDIA chipset unless you are dead set on SLI. The 750FTW from eVGA is a pretty decent board, as in the 790i Ultra, but NVIDIA chipsets as a whole seem to be buggier than most.

INTEL QX9650 // Gigabyte EP45 Extreme // 8GB PC2-8500 // BFG GTX260 MaxCore // DD Torture Rack // Seagate 750GB HDD // OCZ Vendetta // PC Power & Cooling 620W PSU

This is true about nVidia chipsets, and the 790i is no different. Taking a quick glance through EVGA's forums for the 790i reveals plenty of problems with this particular nVidia chipset.

Thanks for the inputs, and I really don't want a board that is going to give me trouble....(After posting on the forum about my new build, and after reading some responses I decided to start all over again.)...So it is going to be for mostly gaming and I have a 24" and also going to go with the 8400 and I just ordered the corsair-750tx....(I would like to have dual cards, but I guess I could live without)

What board or boards would you recommend? I'm capped on about $225 if that helps.
thanks all.

ASUS P5E LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX Intel Motherboard

Unless your running resolutions higher then 1920x1200 with full detail, dual video cards is a waste. Not only that, but unless you are using 2 top of the line video cards you can usually get better performance out of one high end video card rather then two mid range cards in SLI.

If you have your heart set on dual video cards you still have the option of ATI Crossfire, which many of the intel chipset boards support.

lol, I was just going to post, that I didn't want dual cards... I was killing time and looking at video cards until someone posted some mbo choices, and got side tracked about reading dual cards and decided from what I read and then your post...so I guess it's official no duals for me. thanks again.
