Default New rig coming (in pieces, over time)

Well, I finally started ordering parts for a C2D system.
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-965P-S3
Don't need Dual Raid controllers and not even thinking about SLI. So it seems to me to be the best board/buck for what I want to do.

Memory - Mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit
Couldn't beat the deal I got on this and it's great memory too.

Cpu - will be the E6600 when I finally order it.

Gpu - recycle the 7800GT I have while I wait to see how the DX10 stuff shakes out over the next couple of months.

Recycing most everything else. Will replace the X2 3800 system I have now as my main gamer. The X2 will become a dedicated folder.

Intel E8400 @ 4.05GHZ - EP35-DS3P
Zalman 9700NT - 4 Gig Mushkin DDR2-1066
Two Sapphire HD 4870 512mb in CrossFire
PC P & C 750 watt - Samsung 216BW LCD
Samsung DVD-RW - Logitec Z-640 speakers
Linksys WRT54GL Router - CM 690 Case
Seagate 250gig - Vista Home Premium 64bit

most likely a Fortron around 500W since I don't need the 'bling' of LED's, modular, adjustable rails, etc. Just a solid psu at a good price.

And that is indeed a good, solid power supply from a very reputable company Good luck with purchase/build and let us know if you have any problems, we'll always be more than happy to help!

When I get this all together, I'll probably need some help on the OC that will become obligatory.

Agreed, lookin' good. You gonna re-use your current hard drive too? Is it SATA or PATA?

looks like a good listing there... good solid components..

also if you plan on using your old PATA drive, may be a good time to step up to SATA because prices are down.
Some examples:

$90 (or $84.99 After $5.00 Promo Code: EMC327DCAVR) Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

$85 Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS (Perpendicular Recording Technology) 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

$140 after rebate Newegg.com - Western Digital Raptor WD740ADFD 74GB 10,000 RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA150 Hard Drive - OEM

$140 with promo code (EMC327DBCUDA)
Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording) ST3500630AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

Thanks HL and Corsair!

The Seagate 120 I have is SATA. I have a small PATA that will go on the X2 when it goes to folding exclusively. I don't let stuff 'age' on my hd. If I haven't used it/played it in a couple of months and don't plan on it in the near future, it goes to either the trash can or on a disk for later judgement.
The DVD is PATA and is less than 6 months old, so it ain't going anywhere but back in. If I cudda recycled more I wudda. But going from AMD skt939 to Intel skt775 means replacing just exactly what I am.
I REALLY gonna have a hard time waiting for Intel to cut prices. I may not be able to hold out that long.

I got a coupon rebate fr newegg for a hyper modular psu for 69.99. I can give that out if anyone is interested.

I would rather read a NewEgg review than a [H] review

And if you don't mind open box deals on those SATAs you can get an 80gb for $32.99 or even a 320gb for only $79.99 (and many others) at newegg.

I just picked up that 320gb a week or so ago...
