Default Motherboard Help

I have a motherboard that supports only those big processors... and I need to find a cheap motherboard that can...

Support those small AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processors
Have a sound card ship
and anything else that should be on a motherboard.

Try and help me find one thats an Atari or ATI motherboards.. I think, that is cheap. *I live in Toronto, Ontario Canada* / Downtown of Toronto, so help me find a motherboard that can support those small processors please.

*EDIT
* I just read, that it has a 939 channel, so can anyone help me find a motherboard that supports the 939 Socket and the AM2?
Thank You :)

Which motherboard do you currently own? I have trouble believing that only "big" (and I assume by 'big,' you're referring to dual-core?) processors are supported, but not single cores and/or lower clocked pieces of silicon. If it's a s939 motherboard, pretty much any s939 chip should work, but we can tell you for sure if we know what exact model you're dealing with.

What do you mean by "big" processors? Do you mean high-speed/multi-core or the physical processor itself is large? Like the Athlon XPs are physically bigger then the Athlon 64s.

From what I gather, AM2 is a completely new socket, and 939 is an older socket. A 939 chip cannot fit into an AM2. Totally different pin layouts. There are some folks on here that know a great deal about AMD components so I'm sure they will recommend a good MB.

I wasn't aware that Atari or ATI made motherboards. Could you please post a link to the motherboards you are referring to.

Ehh, sorry, I can't always check since my motherboard died.

I think it was Atari who made motherboards, but okay, it answered to some of my questions.

Anyways, my old motherboard was ASRock K7VM3, but, it had nothing to do with my motherboard dying on me.

The one I am into is..
A8N-VM CSM, and I don't know if it's good, to have a...

- ATI Radeon 9250 PCI Slot
- 512 MB Ram
- AMD Cool 'n' Quiet! Technology *I know this will work*
- And Anything else thats needed on a computer.

So, do you think that motherboard will be good?

*And Yes, I aint That Good With Computers :D*

thats actually a pretty good mobo. i have one in a system and it ran fine (its back home now) you really wont need that ati 9250 since the integrated 6150 is better (unless you want to have the dedicated ram. also your ram should be fine, but im assuming you were running ddr333. might want to get a 1gb kit of ddr400 later down the line when you get the cash. but thats a solid choice for a motherboard that will allow you to use your other parts from your other system

Okayy, on other note, mind explaining the DDR things, I am forced to learn about computers against my own will, if I don't, I get no $50 per week allowance anymore =[

sure, no problem my friend. DDR Ram stands for double data rate random access memory. now what does this all mean? well we have to go back to what ram is first.

essentially ram is a computers short term memory. much faster than the long term memory (hard drive) but has much less space and doesnt store things for a long time. ram is used by programs to store needed files so they can be accessed faster meaning less time you have to wait. well the early ram could only send so much data at any given time. the best way to understand that is to look at a chart. i dont have one, but ill make do with what i have. take a look at the following underscores and minus signs: _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
the original ram could only send data at lets just say the underscores(downswing of the clock cycle). however someone figured out a way to send data on theunderscores AND minus signs(upswing of the clock cycle) meaning twice the amount of data/information could be sent in the same amount of time.

are you tracking on what i said? if not let me know.

now when i said that your old 512mb of ram was probably DDR333 (which i was assuming, might actually be DDR266) i was talking about its speed. there are different speed levels of DDR Ram: DDR266(PC2100) DDR333(PC2700) and DDR400(PC3200) are the most common types of DDR available. now you may be wondering what the PCxxxx in parenthesis means. thats the memory's maximum megabyte per second speed. obviously higher is better. now assuming your using 512mb of DDR333(PC2700) your not going to get the most optimal performance of your Athlon 64 3500+ which was designed to take advantage of DDR400(PC3200) the difference may be hardly noticeable, but your system will be at a slight disadvantage when compared to another computer with the same parts except it has DDR400(PC3200)

hope i didnt try to explain too much too fast buddy. if i did im sorry and ill try to break it down for you better. if you have any other questions, please let us know :)
