| Hi Guys, Im having a fantasy about building a computer with a 64-bit OS with the q9450 ... this would be for things like video editing, often I have flash cs3/ dreamweaver/photoshop/ camera raw/ amongst other programs all open at the same time as im building websites and my virtual or physical memory just cant handle it and will shut down programs. My question is, which desktop motherboard holds the most RAM that you know of, for a desktop PC ... ? Thank you Nick. Planning to Build the following for my web design / photoshop work Core 2 Quad Q6600 Gigabyte P35-DS3R 4gb (4x1gb) Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2-1066 3 X 500gb Seagate 7200.10 SATA NCQ Samsung 18x Dual Layer DVD w/Lightscribe Gigabyte HD2400XT Graphics Card Zalman CNPS9700 Logitech DiNovo Laser Desktop Harman Kardon SoundSticks II 2.1 Corsair HX620W Power Supply Antec 1200 Case Primary Monitor:Samsung XL30 Secondary Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 940N | ||||||||||||||

| It really changes between vendors and chipsets, but the most common out there is 8GB, with some boards capable up to 16GB. | ||||||||||||||

| For what it's worth, this thing holds the most physical memory, but it's both DDR2 and DDR3 and I really fail to see the long term practicality of it since they obviously won't run in conjunction with one another. | There's very little point in going over 8GB for a consumer desktop system anyway, let's alone going for 8GB itself... ![]() If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you? | ||||||||||||||

| Truth. If you truly do need more than 8GB, it's time to start looking at workstation setups. | ||||||||||||||

| Hey ... I'm running 8GB in my server. Its only an E6600 @2.8GHZ and running a super-caching program in XP 64 Reasons: Cause ram was stupid cheap. I wanted to test some ram drive softwares. Getting stuff 64 bit ready. I wanted to test Caching programs. Going to use the server pretty extensively this next year with numbers of programs running that will be producing cash flow ... so ram was stupid cheap. Oh ... thread ... 8GB ram is about normal. I agree with One4 in that once you get into building a system that has a dedicated purpose as you mention it is time to look towards workstation boards. Many of these boards use dual processors and RAM in the 8 GB or more ranges. Boards made typically by Intel or Tyan. Ron | |||||||||||||||
