| Not EVERYTHING... If the board has on-board video, then just the CPU/heatsink. If it doesn't, then a video card as well. Oh yeah... ![]() *bam* -Jon Last edited by [Dr. V]; July 19th, 2007 at 16:11. | ||||||||||||||

| You can do stuff in the BIOS without a harddrive. WELCOME TO HL!!! Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 | DFI Blood Iron P35-T2RL | 2GB G.Skill 800MHz | EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB | Silverstone Decathlon 650W | Western Digital 250GB SATA II | ||||||||||||||

| Take out the video card and try using just the onboard, your motherboard is probably the kind that you have to disable the onboard video manually to get a graphics card to work right, just like onboard audio. Also, you dont have to have everything installed, a motherboard will fire up with nothing in it at all. In order to POST, it needs a CPU/heatsink, and and some form of graphics adapter (onboard or card) to display the POST info. Some, like in the case of my mobo, need at least one stick of RAM or it gives an error beep and wont POST, but most boards will boot fine without em. Edit: Also, are you sure the board is even powering on? If its DOA, or fired, the LED's will light but the board itself wont come on, most noticably by your fans not spinning up. If it powers on, normally it'll give some kind of short, single beep to let you know its POSTing. What make and model is the board? | Hmm, this old OEM PC would display the POST info, counting only the embedded memory and then giving an error beep that no RAM was installed. Although it was awhile ago, when I was new to the system building world and I could be wrong. A motherboard will still start up fine with nothing else added to them, but you wont get very far lol In any case, was this issue resolved? Seems we've been having some open ended problems left without closure lately. | ||||||||||||||
