Default having issues

I can't format on this motherboard I have on my second computer at all for some reason. It either tries to log into windows, or when i put in a brand new HDD it keeps coming up "error loading operating system". The computer is: Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H MB
Seagate 320GB HDD
2GB Kingston Ram
E4500 Processor
Antec Earthwatts 500W PS
Samsung Writemaster DVD-R
Onboard Video

Any ideas as to why I'm unable to format?

You need to make sure the HDD is selected in the boot order in the bios. If you change or add a HDD that you want to boot from, it has to be added to the boot order.

like hitman said but different wording, make sure the system is trying to boot from your old HD, not the new one in the BIOS. Once you boot into windows, then format from there. If you are booting from a disc (say windows disc to format the new drive), make sure that is first in the boot order in the BIOS or press F12 a few times and choose CDROM as the boot source... I would suggest boot into windows and format from there.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

I'll give it a try. thanks

EDIT: I have no choice to try booting from the cdrom. I just replaced the HDD as the old one crapped out. I cant get it to load the cd so i can format.

Yes you do, look under the boot menu. Put the CDrom as the first boot device.

first boot device should be CDROM, second should be hard drive
also look on the first main BIOS screen and make sure the CDROM is listed on there, if not then check the power and data cables inside the system going to the CDROM drive and on the motherboard to make sure you didn't bump a cable.
