| DD3's take over is gonna happen, hopefully not to soon, so I was looking at the new P35 motherboards, mainly gigabytes. only one board is a hybrid board though, and it doesnt support crossfire yet all the rest do. Surely they would make the most money selling boards with hybrid memory support and next-gen GFX support. right? oh another question, does the 680i chipset support 45nm cpus? | ||||||||||||||

| The "hybrid" boards with both DDR2 and DDR3 memory capabilities are likely more complicated to design and produce, so it is easy to see why they would stick with one or the other. It's a general trend with anything really that it is easy to make one thing to a single, particular task very well, but when you try and get one thing to perform as several different things, then it will just be mediocre at all. As for the 45nm processors, I don't think anyone but the nVidia engineers can tell you that for sure since the 45nm chips aren't available yet. If I had to give you an answer on the subject, I would say it is a toss up. The 680i chipset is likely to support the new processors, but there is really just as good of a chance that there will be no support. Sorry for the vagueness ![]() | ||||||||||||||

| ahh thanks for clearing that up for me. How long would you say it will take for DDR3 to take over? its still got very high latencys and high price, like old DDR2 | ||||||||||||||

| I wouldn't expect DDR3 to take over anytime in 2007, that's for sure. Give it a year and the situation will have likely changed for DDR3 and it will be priced much more reasonably and speeds will be faster with more motherboard support. But I wouldn't expect anything to really change much for a while. DDR2 has a lot of support and reasonable prices so there is really no reason to worry about it just yet. | ||||||||||||||

| It's likely current MBs will not support 45nm cpus because of the power regulation around the socket. | As far as P35 motherboards, i really have my eye on the ASUS motherboards. Nothing wrong with Gigabyte, just had really good experience with them and plus, their new boards look really cool!! ![]() Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 | DFI Blood Iron P35-T2RL | 2GB G.Skill 800MHz | EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB | Silverstone Decathlon 650W | Western Digital 250GB SATA II | ||||||||||||||
