Default Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 shutting down

I just put my new system together as listed in my sig. It powers up then shuts down after about 2 mins. I managed to get into the bios a few times and saw the cpu temp very high like 90s and climbing. I applied a small amount of silver Artic 5 to the cpu but im thinking if i didnt add enough paste would it cause this?

Thanks

I'm at work and can't access the Arctic Silver site. So I have to ask, did you visit the site and see the installation recommendation?
Also, what heatsink/fan are you using?

Start off with these instructions.

If you applied the paste properly, then recheck your HSF for correct seating. Is it the stock cooler or after market? If it's the stock cooler, did you scrape all the Thermal Pad off before using the AS5? Did you remove the plastic cover form the bottom of the HSF (High Speed Fan) before installing it?

The most common problem is not properly seating the HSF assembly.

the locking tab things on these processors are a major pain. Pop the base pin piece into the board, turn it left, push it down, turn it right (just like a wood screw), then put a little pressure on it while pushing down and you should hear a little click letting you know it locked in place. With those temps I suspect the cooler isn't tightened down all the way. Not enough/too much goop (AS5 or whatever you're using) would still let it boot if the heatsink was tightened down and even then the temps would show in the 60s somewhere (still too hot).

Thanks HL and Corsair!

I finally got the system running cool last night, thanks for all the help. I cleaned off the previous thermal paste and reapplied some more and tightened up the heat sink. Running at about 30c to 40c. Thanks for all the help, much appreciated. Ill get some pics up of Excalibur (computer of power) Later this week

One problem solved another one arises. I bought a IDE controller card to add some extra IDE connectors, problem is my system doesn't seem to be recognizing the DVD-ROM hooked up to it. Any suggestions on how to resolve this? Its a PCI ATA 13 raid card

You might have to install some drivers for the PCI controller card if it wasn't automatically recognized.
