| The Final Word
| ![]() When people think of eVGA, the first thing that comes to mind is high quality NVIDIA graphics cards. However with the release of their 680i motherboard a few months ago, eVGA has firmly established themselves as a force to be reckoned with when it comes to motherboards as well. eVGA 650i Ultra Motherboard Review INTEL QX9650 ASUS Maximus Extreme 4GB DDR3-1600 Sapphire HD 3870X2 Danger Den Torture Rack (Custom W/C) Seagate 750GB HDD BFG ES 800W PSU | ||||||||||||||

| Ya know, if you were to replace the NB cooler with a good after market chipset cooler, and add some sort of cooling to the SB chipset, this board would be perfect for anyone who didn't really care about SLI. The memory issue can be compensated by using a good 2GB DDR2-800 kit with tight latencies.......say 4-3-3-12/15, which should give you comparable results to a DDR2-1066 kit @ 5-5-5-15. | yeah those were the only concerns i had. my nforce4 sli chipset on my sli-dr was hot. i can only imagine how hot those nforce 6xx chips can get. | Very nice review!! Would you recommend this chipset over, say, the P965? | Tough call, I'm a big fan of INTEL chipsets because they are so reliable, and perform very well........but the ability to run the memory unlinked with the 650i chipset means you can get the best possible performance out of your system. Depending upon the board, I'd recommend the P965, say a Gigabyte DQ6 or DS3, or an ASUS board. If you don't care about SLI I'd say its hard to look past this board. | Yep, LOVE that feature on my ASUS board I have right now. Very helpful when trying to OC the CPU but not the RAM. | EVGA lists two versions of their 650i Ultra, the A1 and the T1. The one reviewed is the A1. Opteron 165@2520mhz DFI SLI-DR Corsair TwinX2048-3200PRO EVGA 7800GT CO Samsung 160gb sata2/ Maxtor 250gb sata Coolermaster i930 Ultra XPRO 800w Zalman 9500 Windows XP Pro | ||||||||||||||
