Default The DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Venus?

Hello everyone! Been a while~ Anyways, I was wondering if any of you have tried or know anything about this board.

Check it out.

It seems identical to the Expert, but I wonder what the Venus is for? It would be hillarious if this board were made solely to target those overclocking Opterons, haha!

Good to see ya GV2NIX!!! :thumright:

HERE is some more information I could find on the Venus. It seems to me like it is more of a hype board that really isn't much different than the Expert. But I could be wrong :?

Good to hear from you too! And, sorry I missed your birthday, I've been a bad, bad hermit. :(

Interesting info. I guess it's more or less the same. I figured although the specs are the same, it might have 2 or 3 more surface caps or transistors or something, haha! Even if it did, I guess it wouldn't matter. I can't imagine my Expert being much better than it is. I get so much peace of mind just by having the Swifty chipset cooler on it, haha!

Venus sounds fishy. I bet someone at DFI got wind of the Opty craze and pitched it to the marketing department. I bet, I bet!

By the way, I'll be getting a 170 soon... *drum roll* ...CCBWE 0530 TPMW!! I'll be sure and post my results! :D

Probably true. I can't see any large differences between the two. Silly DFI
Maybe ThundA can shed some light on the attraction to the Venus.... :?:

Just noticed that the newegg specs list the Venus board as having a different LAN chipset than the Expert...
Compare Link...

Also found this:
Quote:
"DFI, a world leader of motherboards and maker of the award-winning LANParty motherboard series, today announced its limited release of a super high-end motherboard: DFI LANParty UT NF4 SLI-DR Venus. This special edition motherboard consists of 100% Japan-made, solid Aluminum electrolytic capacitors with low Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) to deliver unprecedented performance and overclocking capabilities" .

"With this special edition LANParty UT NF4 SLI-DR Venus, DFI becomes the first motherboard maker to use 100% Japanese, low ESR solid Aluminum electrolytic capacitors."
...at DFI-Street

Actually, I think they have the same LAN chipsets, but they just switched them for one of the boards. I bet they're the same chipsets configured the same way, and probably even in the same position on the boards themselves, but was just a clerical error on Newegg's part.

I'll read more on DFI Street, but it's probably just a marketing ploy as we suspected. :)

Take a second peek - Newegg just reversed the order between the primary and secondary GbE LANs (Marvel 88E8001 and Vitesse VSC8201).

Interesting pricing structure though. I imagine that this newer revision will overclock slightly higher than the previous boards, but they all go so high that's it's splitting hairs at this point. For the $100 premium, I want caps plated in gold...

Very true. When the boards usually overclock higher than the chips, what's the point?! Unless of course you are running the "Chillzilla Micro"!
