Default DFI Infinity 975X/G Motherboard Review

Quote:
When INTEL introduced their Core 2 Duo processors, those that rushed to buy them were greeted by a major problem; finding motherboards that supported INTEL's newest CPUs. While boards supporting Core 2 Duo processors have trickled onto the market, its a real chore trying to find the right board.

I don't want to give the impression that I don't like the board....its a very good board.
I don't like the BIOS, for about 95% of users, its just way too extensive....and I believe it really causes a lot of the problems people see with memory.
Also, with the Infinity marketed as a budget entry, it has no real market outside of those dedicated to DFI, and thats too bad. With the P965 chipset being very formidable, and offering about the same features this board does....most of the time with a better bundle, why would you want this over something like the Gigabyte DS3. On the other hand, if you don't need a bundle, and only care about the board....this is a great alternative to the ASUS and INTEL P975 boards

With fairly modest tweaking I can hit 375 on air.....so yeah I'd say its a good OCer....but as i also pointed out, the BIOS is not particularly user friendly....and limits the compatibility with a lot of RAM.....including OCZ, a company DFI has really buddied up to

To Rich or anyone else to whom this applies.

Have you used any of the Asus P5W Premium and/or Deluxe boards with your C2D before?

It also seems that you're using the same PSU that I'm using. That's working without a hitch for you?
The DFI board is actually a really nice performer....I'm happy with it. It has the typically finicky DFI BIOS, with too many variables....but other than that it is a very nice board. I've been hitting 350-360 FSB with a E6600 and 370-380 FSB with an E6300. It doesn't like pushing the memory frequency too much, but if you keep it around 800-1000MHz you will be fine....I'd also recommend an aftermarket chipset cooler.
